A registered professional nurse in the department of surgery is responsible for providing direct perioperative pediatric patient care utilizing AORN, ASPAN, and OSHA standards of practice. Collaborates with other healthcare team members to meet the patients/families needs in a cost-effective manner. Provides customer service for the patients/families, nurses, physicians, and other healthcare team members. Functions as a team player and practices open communication with a positive flexible attitude. Assists in meeting departmental goals by participating in quality improvement activities. The scope of practice for the perioperative nurse is diverse and flexible and may include preparing patient/family for surgery, scrubbing/circulating in the surgery room, caring for patient in the postanesthesia care unit, or preparing patient/family for discharge to home/hospital unit. Any budgeted position may be required to take on-call shifts and maintain PALS certification in accordance with the departmental policy.
REQUIRED: Associate degree/diploma in nursing with commitment to obtain BSN within 3 years of hire, graduation from an accredited program of nursing, RN licensure in State of Ohio, CPR certification, communication skills, basic keyboarding skills, and customer service skills.

Dayton Children’s is a 155-bed, freestanding children’s hospital with more than 35 pediatric specialties. We serve a pediatric population of 510,000 from a 20 county region of central and southwestern Ohio and eastern Indiana. Construction on a new, eight-story, 260,000-square-foot patient care tower in the center of the hospital’s current campus began in August 2014 and is scheduled to be completed in 2017. Also, a major expansion of the Springboro Outpatient Care Center and Urgent Care will include a medical office building for pediatric specialists and primary care physicians, a 16-room pediatric emergency department, an outpatient surgery center with 4 operating rooms and a 4-bed Sleep Lab.
