Job Description

General Statement of Job

The Hospital Administrator is responsible for providing leadership in managing the daily operations of the hospital and it’s entities, establishing a system for assuring that high quality care is provided; assuring the sound fiscal operation of the hospital while promoting services that are produced in a cost-effective manner; ensuring compliance with regulatory agencies and accrediting bodies while continually monitoring the organization’s service and delivery system, ensure optimal fulfillment of the hospitals mission in response to the identified needs of the community; responds to Medical Staff, employees and patients. In addition, the Administrator, will work closely with the Lakeside Advisory Board and leadership of the Medical Staff in developing the strategic direction and major policies of the hospital.  The Administrator is a strategic thinker with rich analytical skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities. 

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Functions:

Strategic Leadership:

  • Participates with the District leadership, Medical Staff, and senior management in the development and implementation of strategic plans.

  • Establishes and attains challenging/achievable goals structured around the mission and organizational pillars:  safety, quality, service, financial and people

  • Thinks strategically, possesses vision, but has the ability to adjust to change, build advantageous coalitions and foster team spirit in the institution.

  • Maintains an active advocacy role in promoting the needs of the institution and its mission.

Physician Relations:

  • Strives to develop an effective, collaborative partnership with the medical staff to maintain communications and positive momentum.  Meets routinely with physicians individually and at appropriate committee meetings.

  • Develops an understanding of the physician needs, attitudes, and objectives to blend those with the functions and strategic objectives of the hospital.  Seeks input on matters that impact the care processes.

  • Provides direct supervision to employed physicians.

 

 

Financial Responsibility:

  • Displays leadership in financial management from conceptual strategies through recommending policy, executing fiscal procedures for control and effective utilization of physical and financial resources for the hospital.

  • Creates value by recommending appropriate actions and strategies to respond to projected economic and utilization trends within the organization.

People Management:

  • Ensures the attainment of hospital objectives through the selection, development, organization, motivation, management, evaluation, and promotion of human resources through the establishment and maintenance of facilities, equipment, supplies and other required resources.

  • Applies clear and consistent performance standards, handles performance problems decisively and objectively; is direct but tactful and provides guidance and assistance to improve performance.

Board and Community Relations:

  • Coordinates the activities of the Lakeside Advisory Board, through the establishment of priorities during recurring meetings.

  • Works with District leadership to develop agenda’s and regular communications.

  • Develops programs promoting a positive image of the hospital and creates awareness of available services to local community by representing the hospital in community activities.

Emergency duty may be required of the incumbent that includes working in Red Cross shelters or to perform other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to threats or disasters, man-made or natural.




Position Qualifications

Education: 

Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Health Care Administration, Public Health or related field required; Master’s degree preferred.    

Experience: 

Minimum of 5 to 7 years of progressively more responsible experience as a senior hospital executive.  Previous experience in a rural setting and in a public sponsored hospital is preferred.

Certification: 

Fellowship with the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE) is preferred. 

Training:

Demonstrates current knowledge of healthcare and hospital operations through ongoing professional development.
