Advanced Surgical Associates (ASA) has openings for Physician Assistants (PAs) in its Trauma / Surgical Critical Care Division. The PAs will collaborate with the trauma / critical care / acute care surgeons who staff the Trauma program at Banner Desert Medical Center (BDMC) / Cardon Children’s Medical Center (CCMC). PAs will deliver high quality care to patients with acute injuries or emergency general surgical conditions, as well as those requiring critical care.
BDMC/CCMC is a community hospital with more than 600 licensed beds, of which about 200 are devoted to neonatal and pediatric patients. The hospital holds provisional designation as an Arizona Level I Trauma Center, and is actively pursuing separate verifications from the American College of Surgeons as both a Level II Adult and Level II Pediatric Trauma Center. BDMC/CCMC is only the second Trauma Center capable of managing both Adult and Pediatric patients in the Phoenix metro area and anticipates adding more than 3500 patients to its trauma registry annually.
Under the supervising surgeons, these PAs will:
- Participate in the initial assessment and management of acutely injured adults and children
- Conduct history and physical examinations of patients in both the inpatient and outpatient (clinic) setting
- Enter patient orders as directed by the surgeons
- Order and review medical imaging and laboratory studies
- Perform necessary procedures such as wound repair, tube thoracostomies, bronchoscopies and arterial and central line placement
- Evaluate and write daily notes on patients
Prior experience with trauma care or critical care would be ideal, but is not required. Because there are no surgical residents on the Trauma service, PAs will have opportunities to assist surgeons in the operating room. PAs will be required to complete Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) training, if not currently certified, as well as ACLS and PALS certification.
ASA is a multi-specialty surgery group offering a great work environment, competitive salary and a comprehensive benefits package that includes paid time off, CME allowance with paid CME time, long term disability, retirement and professional liability coverage.
