Overview:

Johnston Memorial Hospital (JMH), the first LEEDs-certified “green” hospital in Southwest Virginia, is a not-for-profit, 116-bed (all private rooms) modern medical facility dedicated to bringing quality health care to the residents of this region which covers Southwest Virginia and bordering states. With 29 beds, the JMH Emergency Department provides treatment to over 40,200 patients annually with a strong base of dynamic ABEM trained physicians and dedicated APCs.  JMH is a growing regional referral center with interventional cardiology, intensivists, interventional radiology, nearly all adult subspecialties and a pediatric hospitalist service.  There are continued plans for physical expansion and referral expansion and transfers to and from regional hospitals are seamless with just one phone call. Here are some facts about JMH:
  • 12 hour APC shifts; 7 on/7 off
  • On call services include: Peds, OB/GYN, Surgery, Ortho, ICU, Anesthesia, Ophthalmology, Oncology, Nephrology, ENT, Radiology, Interventional Cardiology, OMFS, Gastroenterology, Urology
  • 24/7 Radiology and CT Techs
  • Bedside ultrasound
  • On-site lab
  • Adult Hospitalist program

Requirements:
  • Virginia Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner License
  • DEA License with Virginia registration
  • Board Certification (NCCPA, AANP or ANCC).  Nurse practitioners must be Board Certified to care for all age ranges of patients.
  • American Heart Association ACLS & PALS
  • At least one (1) year of Emergency Medicine Experience
  • 80% of schedule will be at JMH but will be expected to help cover SCCH and RCMC due to vacation or illness.

About the Community:
Johnston Memorial Hospital is located in Abingdon, Virginia, a center point in Washington County and a designated Virginia Historic Landmark. Located in the Great Appalachian Valley, the town encompasses several historically significant sites and features a fine arts and crafts scene centered on the galleries and museums along Main Street.  It is home to such historical landmarks as the Barter Theatre and The Martha Hotel.  There are many outdoor activities located in and around Abingdon such as the 34 mile Virginia Creeper Trail, mountain biking, hiking, camping, horseback riding, fishing, and boating.

Compensation:
Advanced Practice Clinicians (APC) are employees of VEP.  They receive an hourly base rate and an opportunity to earn productivity compensation at specific sites.  APCs are eligible for a comprehensive benefits package which includes health, vision, dental, and life insurance, profit sharing, 401k, CME and license allowances.  Our APCs also enjoy the benefit of flexible schedules, paid malpractice insurance with tail coverage and the opportunity to become a shareholder which allows them to become actively involved in the governance of the company.
