We are seeking a Hospitalist to join our talented team!
 
Overview:
The Hospitalist acts under the direction and supervision of a Center, Associate, or Corporate Medical Director. The hospitalist physician provides direct patient care in accordance with DaVita Medical Group practice policies, relevant state and federal regulations, and within the limits of their experience, training and privileges. This position provides services in a hospital and SNF setting.
 
Essential Functions:
Recommend, order, and evaluate diagnostic studies and therapeutic interventions. Conduct comprehensive or episodic health assessments of patients with acute or chronic health problems in order to establish medical diagnoses. Monitor medical, radiographic, laboratory and any other diagnostic parameters associated with patient care. Monitor therapeutic procedures, assess and manage/modify follow-up plans. Prescribe and regulate medications in accordance with Florida Statutes. Record and document health appraisal data necessary to maintain and coordinate health care needs and m aintain a medical record. Consult and refer to other health care providers as indicated by individual patient needs. Conduct patient assessments including triage; educate patients on preventive health care (to include family/next of kin) and acute care follow-up as needed. Diagnose and treat emergency conditions in accordance with BCLS guidelines as indicated. Round at hospitals/SNF’s when assigned, take call on rotating basis, and provide timely care to patients. Perform other duties as required.
 
Education:
* MD/DO degree from accredited medical school and residency in Family Medicine or Internal Medicine.
* Possess a current and valid Florida state license and DEA
* Board eligible or board certified in Family Medicine or Internal Medicine.
* If eligible, able to achieve and maintain certification within 2 years of joining DaVita.
 
Experience:
* Managed care experience preferred.
 
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
* Treat and physically have contact with patients without exception in an office, hospital, or SNF setting, in all areas of the facility without exception, to include ER, reverse isolation, ICU, dialysis, etc.; not delay or avoid seeing any patients in these settings with specific symptoms.
* Conduct comprehensive or episodic health assessments of patients with acute or chronic health problems in order to establish medical diagnoses.
* Physically round at hospitals and/or skilled nursing facilities when assigned; take evening/weekend call on a rotating basis, and provide timely telephonic and in-person care to patients including in the middle of the night and or weekends without delay.
* Diagnose and treat, without delay, emergency conditions in accordance with BCLS guidelines as indicated in both office and hospital setting.
* Examine, diagnose, and treat, without delay, (to include direct physical contact with):
* Patients who may have non-specific symptoms suggestive of flu or other respiratory illnesses, in any location (including for example an office setting or hospital setting such as reverse isolation in a hospital or SNF, ICU, etc.).
* Febrile patients with not yet diagnosed illnesses or where the offending organism has not yet been identified.
* Patients in reverse isolation due to neutropenic sepsis, host-compromised illnesses, or where the offending organism is not yet known (bacterial, viral, fungal, parasitic, etc.).
* HIV-AIDS patients who may be sick with infection or who may be asymptomatic and not yet identified; with SNF or hospital patients with or suspected of Tuberculosis, MRSA, viral illnesses, or respiratory illness.
* Patients who may be ill (with or without fever) or who may have been diagnosed with potentially or known communicable or contagious diseases, or conditions to include, but not limited to the following: Flu or other respiratory diseases, Pneumocystis Carini pneumonia, or viral or fungal diseases to include CMV, herpes, chicken pox, shingles, TB, etc.
* Draw blood, start intravenous lines, change infected wound dressings, drain skin abscesses and examine infected wounds in office, hospital or SNF setting on occasion.
* Recommend, order, and evaluate diagnostic studies and therapeutic interventions.
* Monitor medical, radiographic, laboratory and any other diagnostic parameters associated with patient care.
* Monitor therapeutic procedures, assess and manage/modify follow-up plans.
* Prescribe and regulate medications in accordance with Florida Statutes.
* Record and document health appraisal data necessary to maintain and coordinate health care needs and maintain a medical record.
* Consult and refer to other health care providers as indicated by individual patient needs.
* Conduct patient assessments including triage; educate patients on preventive health care (to include family/next of kin) and acute care follow-up as needed.
* Maintain all patient information as “highly confidential” in accordance with HIPAA Guidelines.
* Follow applicable Policies and Procedures.
* Ability to walk, sit, push, pull, bend, squat, reach, and lift.
* Ability to stand for long durations.
* Ability to deal with patients / customers in a courteous and professional manner.
* Ability to travel to multiple facilities in the same day when on call or when necessary.
* Extensive inpatient management skills required.
* Ability to communicate effectively, get along with coworkers and management, and deal effectively and professionally under pressure.
* Perform other duties as required.
* Ability to read, write, speak and understand the English language fluently and document clearly in the medical record.
* Ability to read, write, speak and understand the Spanish language a plus.
* Knowledge of Allscripts a plus.
