About Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery Associates and The Medical Center of Aurora:
In addition to the basic clinical skills expected of all PA's in surgical service (H&P's, ordering of pertinent labs and diagnostics, and pre and post-operative patient care), the PA who fills this position will have surgical experience in open and endoscopic vein harvest, sternal closure & autonomous sternal exposure, independence in placement of chest tubes, thoracentesis, and intra-aortic balloon pump independent of the attending physician. In addition to non-operative clinical responsibilities in the inpatient and outpatient settings, the PA will first and second assist the attending physician in cardiac and thoracic surgical procedures. The PA also functions as a coordinator between the attending physicians and other team members and will establish and maintain relations with other key services service lines involved in care delivery. There will be shared coverage of cardiac surgery patients and assistance with weekend call.
