Position Description

The Application Support Specialist is responsible for providing real-time and follow up support to end users that access healthcare systems to perform their primary job responsibilities, in addition to supporting clinical provider computer hardware.  This position will be involved with troubleshooting common issues such as Windows operating system (Win10) issues, network connectivity and application specific issues. This position also tests releases for EMR software and its associated clinical applications, and deploys new PC hardware and software to end users.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoots EMR software and its associated clinical applications
  • Provides remote assistance and corrective solutions for end users via phone, email, service desk tickets and IM
  • Attains a high, first level call closure rate by using a wide range of remote software tools to troubleshoot and resolve hardware, software and network connectivity problems
  • Independently investigates possible solutions to previously unforeseen issues
  • Identifies opportunities and recommend/implement solutions for improving IT service efficiency
  • Works cross functionally to implement solutions as required
  • Coaches end users on their varied technologies
  • Works with outside vendors to support business initiatives
  • Develops and maintains formalized internal documentation and job aids to assist in quickly resolving issues, including Application Support procedures, tech tips, and knowledge base
  • Repair, configure and deploy laptops
  • Performs software application testing for new releases/implementations
  • Escalates, as appropriate, to management or other teams any incident needing additional resources or management awareness, maintaining ownership of the issue and returning the IT service to users within established team goals
  • Available for 24x7 rotating on-call shift


REQUIRED Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • 1+ years of work experience in a fast-paced IT Helpdesk or EMR Helpdesk supporting a variety of computer software and applications
  • Proficiency in Windows desktop operating systems (Windows 10) and Microsoft Office
  • Proficiency troubleshooting network connection issues
  • Proficiency with computer hardware, software and associated applications including, but not limited to, VPN’s, EMR’s and remote computer monitoring/management tools
  • Must have the ability to prioritize and complete multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Team-oriented, good at sharing knowledge and asking for help when needed
  • Self-motivated, the ability to stay on task and work diligently without constant supervision
  • Problem solving and strong analytical skills required
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills


Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Associates or Bachelor degree in IT related field
  • Healthcare experience and familiarity with the healthcare industry, including medical records and related privacy, compliance and security regulations
  • Familiarity with helpdesk ticketing procedures
