Clinical Child Psychologist
Carilion Clinic Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine 


Full-time, Mon-Fri 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., some evening hours likely

 

Position Overview: 
Carilion Clinic is hiring a full-time Clinical Child Psychologist located in Roanoke, VA. This position is located under the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine, Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Section, and is dynamic in its duties and responsibilities:
•    75% of time devoted to direct patient care activities.
•    25% of time devoted to supervision of psychotherapy provided by Child Psychiatry Fellows, education and teaching within the Child Psychiatry Fellowship program, and consultation and supervision of psychological service delivery within our school-based programming. 

Desired expertise includes:
•    Trained with experience in in Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT). 
•    Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) trained/certified.
•    Expertise in evidence-based therapy and behavioral approaches for improving psychiatric outcomes among children and adolescents, and skilled in behavioral management approaches.
•    Knowledge and experience with family therapy and family systems/structural models.
•    Knowledge and ability to provide intermittent child and adolescent psychological assessments.
•    Knowledge and ability to provide effective supervision and education to psychiatry residents in clinical domains of expertise.
•    Experience and ability to treat children and adolescents who present with trauma and safety concerns, development delays, autism, and neurodevelopmental disorders.

The psychologist will demonstrate knowledge and competency of evidence-based diagnostic methods, psychotherapy, and measurement-based methods to demonstrate clinical outcomes. 

The psychologist will be knowledgeable of methods and models for promoting delivery of psychological services to a culturally diverse population and geographic catchment.

The psychologist will work well as an independent provider and function effectively as part of an interdisciplinary team-based culture and structure.

The psychologist will maintain necessary requirements for a non-tenure academic appointment with Virginia Tech-Carilion School of Medicine; requirements include, but are not limited to, effective and competent teaching and supervision of psychiatry residents and medical students. 

The psychologist will be encouraged to participate in or develop funded research and program development opportunities with emphasis on translational research and outcomes; competency and knowledge of research methods and demonstration of historical research activities is preferred.

The psychologist will be familiar with ethical, professional, and state regulations and standards for use of telehealth in delivery of psychological services.

 

Position Requirements:

Education: PhD or PsyD from an APA or CPA-accredited clinical psychology graduate program. Successful completion of an APA or CPA-accredited doctoral internship. 

Experience: Minimum supervised resident and postdoctoral hours for licensure as required the Virginia Board of Psychology. Completion of a specialty post-doctoral fellowship in the field of Child and Adolescent Psychology is desired, but not required.

License, certification, and/or registration: Active Virginia licensure as a clinical psychologist, or able to obtain a Virginia license to practice as a clinical psychologist by time of employment.

Other Minimum Qualifications: Meets Carilion Clinic credentialing requirements. Ability to work cooperatively and professionally with physicians and other health care providers. Committed to continuing education.
