Job Description
Locum Emergency Medicine-APP needed to assist in Shiprock, NM.
 

This position is for three (3) Nurse Practitioners or Physician's Assistants who shall provide emergency room medical care. The Emergency Department (ED) provides emergency medical treatment 24 hours a day, seven days a week to patients of all ages. The Emergency Room is a Level IV trauma center. This designation increases access to trauma care in a rural setting and ensures optimal care to those who are seriously injured. It is certified as Peds Ready by the New Mexico Emergency Medical Services for Children and the University of New Mexico Child Ready Program. This certification ensures effective emergency care for children.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Interviews and examines patients, reviews past medical history, and requests and/or performs complex diagnostic tests and examinations deemed necessary to obtain all possible information related to each case.
  • Makes preliminary diagnosis, directs, prescribes, or provides treatment, or arranges for specialized care or patient referral as required.
  • Evaluates patients within the full age spectrum presenting for services. Bases decisions upon information obtained, professional medical knowledge and skills and prescribe policies and procedures. Makes note of observations to be incorporated into clinical records.
  • Gives total patient care including prevention, health maintenance, early diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up services to patients under his/her care. Obtains consultation as needed. As clinically appropriate, provides medical care to patients for wide spectrum of acute and chronic illness.
  • May serve as a member of the code team in life threatening situations for which the "code blue" or "medical emergency" activation system has been initiated.
  • When working in urgent care department, provides patient care to individuals within the full age spectrum and obtains consultants as needed. Patients occasionally present to urgent care with urgent medical issues and may require prompt evaluation and decision making. Provides urgent care including evaluation, stabilization, and transfer of patients with sepsis, MI, laceration, fracture, abdominal pain, glycemic issues, psychiatric illness, respiratory conditions, pediatric illness, and renal dysfunction.
  • Recognizes and gives initial treatment of acute and psychiatric problems.
  • Provides primary medical care to patients with a wide spectrum of illness.
  • Conducts outpatient clinics making observations appropriate to the outpatient's underlying disease and treatment plan, including current symptoms. Reviews the patient's medications, diet, therapy course, adherence to management plan and patient observations. Modifies regimen as required. Instructs and counsels patients as required.
  • Refers patients to appropriate contracted medical or other facilities, providing full clinical information for care and diagnostic procedures that cannot be adequately provided at local facilities.
  • Comfortable seeing average of 25-30 patients per shift.

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Possess knowledge, skills, and abilities to use a computer and navigate various platforms.
  • Cultural sensitivity.

 

Schedule: Hours of Fast Track 8:00 am - 9:00 pm or 10 am to 10 pm, 6 - 12 to 13-hour

 

Requirements: BLS, DEA, ACLS, PALS and ATLS

 

Education and Experience:

  • Completed an accredited Family Nurse Practitioner program or Physician Assistant program with a minimum of six months experience in the specialty. There must be no lapse of services of no more than six (6) months prior to beginning tour of duty.
  • Board certified with the American Nurses Credentialing Center or the American Association of Nurse Practitioners or the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants that is appropriate to specialty, and shall possess a current, valid, unrestricted appropriate license in any state, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a Territory of the United States, throughout the term of this contract. If the contractor is asked to perform outside the normal training parameters of his/her specialty, then the contractor shall provide certification of hospital privileges in those additional scope of practice(s).
  • Must maintain a valid, current, full, and unrestricted DEA license with schedule types II through V and maintain certification throughout the term of the contract. License verification must be provided at the time of application.
  • Shall provide three (3) current, professional letters of reference from other health care providers familiar with the contractor's clinical practice skills within the same discipline. One letter must be from the Chief of Staff/Medical Director or Immediate Supervisor at the hospital in which the contractor either holds or last held staff privileges. If the contractor has just completed a residency program, one of the letters shall be from the program director or service chief.
  • Shall maintain a valid and current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) and Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) certifications and are mandatory for Family Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants.
  • Must have and maintain a current driver's license throughout the contract period.
