**Why This Role**
- Back-up coverage supporting an established thoracic surgery team
- Opportunity to make immediate impact with intermittent 24-hour call coverage
- Academic-style case mix in a high-acuity hospital-based setting
**Assignment Details**
- Multiple coverage dates in 2026
- Current open dates include:
- January 16 at 5:00 pm through January 19 at 7:00 am
- February 6 at 5:00 pm through February 9 at 7:00 am
- Reason for coverage is supplemental backup for a two-provider thoracic team
- Hospital-based acute care setting
- Call coverage as needed
- Average 2–3 cases per day
- 21 operating rooms
- Hemodialysis access available
- Adult and geriatric patient population
- EMR system EPIC
- Estimated credentialing timeframe approximately 120 days

- Robot-assisted thoracic surgery
- Video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS)
- Navigational bronchoscopy
- Endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS)
- Endoscopic ultrasound (EUS)
- Tube thoracostomy
- Tracheostomy
- Pericardial window
- Thoracic aortic aneurysm procedures
- Mediastinoscopy
- Segmentectomy
- Lobectomy
- Bilobectomy
- Pneumonectomy
- Thoracotomy
- Decortication
- Management of achalasia
- Advanced lung disease including COPD and pulmonary fibrosis
- Anti-reflux surgery and GERD
- Barrett’s esophagitis
- Chest wall tumors and reconstruction
- Diaphragm plication and diaphragmatic hernias
- Dysphagia and esophageal cancer
- Lung nodules and lung cancer
- Mediastinal masses and mesothelioma
- Pleural effusion and pneumothorax
- Rib fractures and plating
- Thoracic outlet syndrome and thymomas
- Tracheal stenosis
**Requirements**
- Board Certified Thoracic Surgeon
- Active Virginia medical license with no exceptions
- BLS certification
- ACLS certification
- Local provider status required
- Ability to submit a flat 24-hour call rate including all gratis hours
**Compensation**
- Rates: Facility is accepting bids
- Malpractice: Provided
- Travel: Reimbursed
