Job Description

UPMC in Central PA has an exciting opportunity for a Physician Informaticist (PI) to play a critical role in providing education and support to provider teams across the UPMC Central Pa system to improve their efficiency and utilization of the EPIC EHR platform, as well as play an integral role in providing high-quality, compassionate, clinical care.

About the Position:

  • The PI position will be a full-time, 1.0 FTE position which will be split into a 50% clinical role and 50% informaticist role.
  • Participate in Continuous Informatics Education and keeping current on new functionality.
  • Participate with “builder buddy” in developing, testing, and validating changes to EPIC and Project work.
  • Support Providers in their assigned area(s) 1) training (1:1), 2) Go live support, 3) ambulatory site evaluation and process improvement 4) upgrade support.
  • Participate in governance committees.
  • 1:1 coaching with providers as deemed necessary by the regional medical director.  
  • Oversight of clinical EHR orientation and onboarding
  • Provide EPIC upgrade training for providers – help in implementation of training plan for ambulatory providers in conjunction with CMIO.
  • Develop/implement continuous efficiency training model for providers, inclusive of 1:1, didactic training and asynchronous offerings.
  • PI will be expected to serve as subject matter expert and EPIC champion regarding project implementations and during upgrade evaluation.

Desired Candidate:

  • Board-certified or board-eligible in Family or Internal Medicine
  • 3+ years of proficiency working with the EPIC Electronic Health Record System
  • 3+ years of clinical experience
  • Knowledge of relevant operational and clinical workflow
  • Commitment to providing high-quality, compassionate patient care
  • Ability to work as part of a team approach while providing personalized care and favorable clinical outcomes
