- Case Volume: 7000/year (300 open heart)
- Call Requirements: 1st Call In-House (12p-7a) ; 2nd Call Beeper
- Case Types: OB – approximately 2000 cases (40% C-section rate), Peds (healthy; 10 y/o or older or 100 lbs. or greater) – very sick peds are sent to Miami Children’s (level 2 NICU) or West Boca Hospital (level 3 NICU), Endo, Neuro, Eyes, ENT, a lot of vascular, V-backs, a lot of thoracic, outpatient, regional & ortho, general, podiatry, busy bariatrics and oncology surgery program, GYN, GU, plastics, IR, cardiac
- 10 Physician / 23 CRNA Anesthesia Care Team Model.
- 100% CRNA direction on all cases, Physicians perform all cardiac cases
- Medically directed- CRNAs call for induction and emergence and any critical events
- CRNAs perform regional anesthesia at the discretion of the anesthesiologist (Femoral & interscalene blocks); CRNAs perform epidurals & spinals
- CRNAs do regionals if competent to do so at the discretion of the anesthesiologist.
- CRNAs place epidurals
- Physicians and CRNAs push meds (Both push meds but primarily the CRNAs push their own meds)
- 18 ORs Running Daily (10 main, 2 cardiac, 1 hybrid, 2 same day surgery, 2 OB)
- Up to 4 GI Rooms and 1 IR Running Daily.
- Up to 2 ORs may run around the clock (24h)
- Shift Times: GI Cases start as early as 7am. By 730a, 10-14 rooms running in main / OB. By 1700, 6 sites running.
- Physicians are In-house and work a 24-hour call with post day call off, 1st call is 1-8
- Cardiac beeper back up call is 1-4
- CRNAs work a variety of shifts 8, 10, 12 and 16 hours
- OB CRNAs work 24 hour shifts during the week and weekend
- CRNAs work 1 weekend day shift: 1 in 8 or 9 weeks
- Nights covered M-F by 2 CRNAs who are scheduled to only work night shifts. (1 OB, 1 OR). On weekend OB is covered by an OB CRNA and the OR is covered by an on call CRNA.
