Overview

The Indian Health Service (IHS) exists to improve the health of American Indian and Alaska Native populations. Crownpoint Healthcare Facility (CHCF), located within the Navajo Nation, serves a vital role in this mission by delivering accessible, culturally competent healthcare in a remote region.

We are actively recruiting Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) — Family Nurse Practitioners or Physician Assistants to support the Fast Track unit of the Emergency Department. This unique opportunity blends emergency care with urgent and primary care responsibilities, offering a meaningful way to serve a high-need population.

If you're committed to serving where you're needed most, send your updated resume and credentialing documents. Eligible candidates will be contacted to begin the onboarding and interview process.

Facility Description

CHCF is a small rural hospital offering:

  • Emergency services (ED + Fast Track)

  • Inpatient care (census: 5–12 patients)

  • Ambulatory clinics (family medicine, pediatrics, behavioral health, etc.)

The ED operates 24/7, while Fast Track runs daily with extended hours including weekends and holidays. The facility lacks surgical, ICU, anesthesia, or labor and delivery services. Patients requiring higher acuity care are transported via ground or air to regional hospitals.

Role Summary

The Fast Track APP manages acute, non-life-threatening issues while supporting continuity of care for patients who may not have reliable access to primary care. This includes:

  • Managing minor injuries: sprains, lacerations, infections, fractures

  • Ordering labs/imaging and interpreting results

  • Performing procedures such as incision/drainage, toenail removal, and splinting

  • Reviewing medical histories and coordinating care plans

  • Writing prescriptions and coordinating medication refills

  • Inputting referrals into the EHR per IHS policy

  • Ensuring all charts are closed within 72 hours

You’ll participate in ER huddles at 10 AM, provide triage screening, and assist with surge protocols during busy periods.

Qualifications

  • Valid, unrestricted NP or PA license (any U.S. state/territory)

  • DEA license

  • BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications

  • Board-certified (AANP or ANCC for NPs)

Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years of emergency, urgent care, or high-volume outpatient work

  • Familiarity with EHR systems and clinical documentation practices

Eligibility:

  • No adverse license actions, terminations, or criminal record

  • No sanctions related to opioid prescribing or ethics violations

Ideal Traits

  • Strong sense of mission and service

  • Comfortable working in remote settings with limited on-site resources

  • Committed to cultural humility and respectful patient care

  • Organized, self-directed, and team-oriented

Compensation & Perks

  • Hourly Rate: $90–$100 (1099)

  • Included: Malpractice insurance, housing, and transportation

  • Schedule: 12-hour shifts with flexible scheduling, including occasional last-minute changes

Living in Crownpoint

Crownpoint is a small, close-knit community offering a slower pace of life and strong cultural traditions. You’ll have the opportunity to engage with the Navajo community, attend local events, and enjoy stunning desert landscapes, mesas, and canyon views.

Credentialing & Employment

All providers must complete IHS credentialing, including:

  • Background check and drug screening

  • Immunization documentation

  • Verification of licenses and certifications

Prior IHS credentialing can streamline the process.

Equal Opportunity Statement

CHCF and IHS are equal opportunity employers and welcome applicants of all backgrounds, especially those with tribal affiliations or experience in Native healthcare.
