Overview
RICAR Business Consulting LLC (RBC) is seeking skilled and dedicated Board Certified or Board Eligible Cardiologists to support the Department of Veterans Affairs at the Syracuse VA Medical Center. About the Role
As a Cardiologist at the Syracuse VA Medical Center, you will provide comprehensive inpatient and outpatient cardiovascular services to our nation’s Veterans. This role offers the opportunity to practice advanced cardiology in a supportive academic environment, supervise and educate trainees, contribute to quality initiatives, and ensure patients receive the highest standard of care.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide the full range of inpatient and outpatient cardiology services in accordance with American College of Cardiology standards and VA protocols.
- Deliver direct patient care including consultations, admissions, discharges, follow-up care, and coordination of treatment plans.
- Provide supervision, teaching, and mentorship for medical residents, fellows, and students in accordance with VA education guidelines.
- Participate in quality assurance, performance improvement initiatives, peer reviews, and relevant committee work.
- Ensure timely documentation in the VA’s electronic health record (CPRS/Vista/EHR) consistent with VHA policy and regulatory requirements.
- Communicate test results promptly and manage care transitions effectively.
- Provide on-call coverage, responding to phone consultations within 30 minutes and onsite within 60 minutes when required.
Required Experience
- Proficiency in the practice of cardiology, including experience in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
- Prior experience working with Veteran or military patient populations, or within federal healthcare systems, preferred.
- Ability to supervise, train, and evaluate medical residents and trainees effectively.
- Familiarity with electronic health records systems and compliance with HIPAA, VA privacy regulations, and infection control standards.
Education & Licensure Requirements
- Medical degree (MD or DO) from an accredited institution.
- Board Certification or Eligibility in Cardiovascular Disease by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM).
- Active, unrestricted license to practice medicine in any U.S. state or territory.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications.
- Valid DEA registration and NPI number.
Health & Screening Requirements
- Fully vaccinated against COVID-19 per VA mandate.
- Current documentation of immunity or vaccination for Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR), Varicella, Tdap, and annual Influenza vaccination.
- Negative Tuberculosis (TB) screening or IGRA; if positive, current chest x-ray.
- Compliance with OSHA requirements for occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens.
Additional Requirements
- Must be a U.S. citizen, U.S. national, or lawful permanent resident (green card holder).
- Must successfully complete all VA credentialing and privileging requirements, including registration in the VetPro system.
- Must complete VA-mandated training such as Privacy and Information Security Awareness and Rules of Behavior, and maintain annual compliance.
- Must comply with all VA policies governing privacy, confidentiality (HIPAA & 38 U.S.C. 7332/5705), and information security standards.
Compensation: $212–$233/hour (~$424,000–$466,000 annually as a full-time independent contractor)

This is a fully onsite role.
Schedule & Availability
- Regular Hours: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM
- On-Call: Required evenings, weekends, and federal holidays with a 30-minute phone response and 60-minute onsite response time.
