Overview
RICAR Business Consulting LLC (RBC) is seeking qualified Board Certified / Board Eligible Internal Medicine or Family Medicine Physicians to provide exceptional primary care services in support of the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center (MEDVAMC) in Houston, TX and its network of eleven (11) Community-Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs). Physicians will be part of a dedicated team delivering essential healthcare services to Veterans under a long-term federal contract.
Job Description
As a Primary Care Physician, you will deliver comprehensive medical care to eligible Veterans, ensuring the highest standards of practice in an outpatient setting. You will manage patient treatment plans, collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, and document all care provided in the VA’s Electronic Health Record system (CPRS/VISTA).
Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care, including comprehensive history and physical exams, diagnosis, treatment, and management of chronic and acute conditions.
- Order and interpret diagnostic tests, prescribe and administer medications, and perform procedures within your scope of practice.
- Coordinate discharge planning, including arranging specialty referrals and follow-up care.
- Ensure timely communication of test results in compliance with VA standards.
- Maintain complete and accurate medical documentation in the VA’s EHR system (CPRS/VISTA).
- Follow infection control protocols, HIPAA regulations, patient rights, privacy, and safety policies.
- Participate in continuous quality improvement activities and complete all required annual VA training (via TMS), such as CPRS use, patient safety, privacy, infection control, Military Sexual Trauma (MST) training, and other core modules.
Experience Needed
Must provide a current CV/resume demonstrating experience in delivering comprehensive primary care or hospital medicine services consistent with internal medicine or family practice standards. Experience should include:
- Performing evaluations, developing treatment plans, managing chronic and acute conditions, coordinating care, and documenting patient encounters in an EHR.
- Experience must show proficiency in providing care within the scope of internal medicine or family practice in an outpatient or comparable setting.
- Ability to meet and maintain clinical competencies, annual immunizations (including TB, MMR, Varicella, Tdap, and flu), and participate in VA credentialing and privileging processes (VetPro).
Candidates should be prepared to submit professional references and documentation to verify relevant clinical experience, credentials, and training.
Education, Certifications, and Licenses
- Doctor of Medicine or Osteopathy (MD or DO) from an accredited institution.
- Current, active, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in any U.S. state or territory.
- Board Certified or Board Eligible in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine (ABIM or ABFM).
- Valid DEA registration.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
- Must be willing to complete a background investigation (per VA Handbook 0710) and comply with all VA credentialing, privileging, and annual training requirements.

or at any of the eleven (11) Community-Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs) in Southeast Texas (including Beaumont, Conroe, Galveston, Katy, Lake Jackson, Lufkin, Richmond, Sugar Land, Texas City, Tomball, and Humble).
Work Hours
- Monday – Friday | 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM
- Full-time schedules, no weekends or overnight shifts.
Position Type
- Full-Time Employee or 1099 Contractor
- Long-term opportunity under a multi-year VA contract (base plus four option years).
