The Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner assists in the delivery of quality patient care working inconjunction with clinic staff. This individual is a member of a multi-disciplinary team consisting of a psychiatrist, psychologist, AODA counselor and social workers. They are to assist in planning, developing and implementing programs for patients and their families. Responsibilities: Performs appropriate psychiatric examinations and documents results in patient?s medical record. Instructs and counsels patients on physical and mental health including diet, disease treatment, and normal growth and development. Assists in the delivery of services to patients by reviewing and monitoring treatment and therapy plans. Performs independent evaluations and treatment procedures necessary to provide an appropriate response to life-threatening emergency situations. Facilitates referrals for patients to other community health care facilities, agencies and resources as appropriate. Prepares written prescription orders for drugs per protocol. Participates in personal continuing education.
