This is an acute care OT position at a level 1 trauma center. Experience with complex medical diagnoses, fast-paced environment, clinical decision making skills and working within the multi-disciplinary team are essential to be successful.

Responsibilities

EVALUATION AND TREATMENT PLANNING: Age (neonate, infant, child, adolescent, adult and geriatric) and disability appropriate evaluation results establish a baseline and a plan of treatment that facilitates improvement in patient function.

Evaluates patients' abilities and limitations.

Establishes treatment goals based on the evaluation and reason for the referral of neuromuscular components of movement and stability; sensation; ADL's; perception; cognition; a vocational and prevocational abilities; developmental; dysphagia; manual muscle test; range of motion; body mechanics; and other tests appropriate for the patient and the profession.

Evaluates home or work environments and recommends physical barrier modifications or ergonomic adaptations.

TREATMENT IMPLEMENTATION: Treatment is appropriate for age (neonate, infant, child, adolescent, adult and geriatric) as well as disability and is revised as necessary, resulting in optimal patient improvement.

Administers therapy according to the established plan, utilizing appropriate

procedures, equipment and techniques within the scope of practice of

Occupational Therapy.

Recommends adaptive equipment, completes the equipment justification forms and arranges for the delivery of the equipment.

Re-evaluates patients, assesses their progress and makes recommendations regarding discharge. (if applicable)

Consults and co-treats with therapists from other disciplines.

Fabricates splints as needed.

DOCUMENTATION: Documentation complies with professional, agency and payor requirements

Provides documentation of patient care according to established criteria.

COMMUNICATION: Written and verbal communications are tailored to meet age/educational levels of patients, families and other customers and are delivered and received in a timely, clear and appropriate manner

PATIENT/FAMILY EDUCATION: Education is provided for the neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult, geriatric patient that facilitates recovery, self-care and health maintenance, health promotion and wellness.

Educates the patient and the caregiver about the goals of the occupational therapy program, methods of accomplishing goals, how to perform the home program and injury prevention.

PROGRAM/TEAM SUPPORT: Participation and support is provided to achieve program, team or department goals.

Participates in continuous quality improvement projects.

Supervises the patient care activities of aides, assistants, attendants and volunteers.

Assists with departmental maintenance and supplies.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT: Professional knowledge is advanced to ensure quality, age, disability appropriate patient care and program excellence.

Participates in in-services, medical conferences, staff meetings, continuing education courses, team meetings and other related activities.

Provides in-services for staff, other departments and the community as appropriate.

Qualifications

Education:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited Occupational Therapy program approved by the Occupational Therapy Association.

Skills:

Able to render patient services and supervise Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants (OTA/COTA), Therapy Aides and students.

Excellent organizational skills to facilitate program development.

Demonstrates competency, as appropriate to the ages of patients served, in the ability to obtain and interpret information in terms of the patients needs; of knowledge of normal growth and development; and an understanding of the range of the treatment needed.

Skilled in home program development and family training.

Knowledge in appropriate selection and use of DME (adaptive equipment.)

Computer skills.
