Job Description

University Pediatricians, the physician group at Children's Hospital of Michigan and Hutzel Women’s Hospital and the Division of Neonatal Medicine in the Discipline of Pediatrics at Central Michigan University School of Medicine are seeking neonatology candidates for faculty positions.

About the Division:

The candidate will join a group of 11 full-time faculty along with 9 neonatology fellows who work at the Children’s Hospital of Michigan (CHM) regional level IV NICU and Hutzel Women’s Hospital (HWH) level III NICU within the Detroit Medical Center. The CHM level IV regional perinatal center has a 45-bed private room NICU with average daily census of 37 patients and includes a neonatal ECMO Program, congenital heart disease surgery, a 6-bed NeuroNICU; high frequency oscillator and jet ventilators are routinely used. CHM has a dedicated pediatric-neonatal transport system with capabilities for nitric oxide, high frequency ventilation and active cooling. HWH comprises a high-risk Maternal Fetal Medicine program and a level III 45-bed NICU and Special care nursery. The division runs a multidisciplinary (neuropsychologist, dietician and PMR specialist) developmental follow-up program. HWH has a Fetal Assessment Clinic staffed by MFM attending and fellow as well as Neonatology attending and fellow to counsel pregnant women on management plan and prognosis of fetuses with birth defects. The Fetal Care Center at CHM is staffed by MFM attending, pediatric subspecialists and Neonatology to counsel pregnant women with fetal birth defects from the community. The CHM Pediatric Residency program has more than 25 residents each year who rotate through NICUs at both CHM and HWH. Midlevel providers at both sites provide additional support.

Opportunity Details:

This is an academic clinical position with the potential of protected time for research/ administration commensurate with funding. Night and weekend calls are expected. The selected recruit is expected to engage in teaching and mentoring medical students, residents and fellows, participate in quality improvement initiatives and engage in basic science, clinical translational or clinical research work. Junior faculty will have access to strong mentorship, and intramural research funding is available during the first 5 years of appointment. The Clinical Research Institute provides infrastructure and personnel for research support. An additional track for night-time attending (nocturnist, about 10 night calls a month, 15 hours each) is also available.

The position is employed by University Pediatricians with an academic appointment at Central Michigan University School of Medicine. Academic ranking and compensation commensurate with experience and qualifications. Visa sponsorships are available.
