MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Current American Heart –Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Phlebotomy certification preferred.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in verbal and writing skills.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Performs related responsibilities as assigned.

JOB SPECIFIC DUTIES:

  • Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide services based on the physical, psychosocial, educational, safety, and other related criteria appropriate population in his/her assigned area
  • Maintains required core competencies.
  • Complies with set Policies and Procedures (i.e. name tag, dress code, parking, smoking, etc.)
  • Understands who our customers are and what our customers expect of us.
  • Support other members of the Team meeting customer needs.
  • Demonstrates ability to work effectively as a multidisciplinary team member.
  • Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/healthcare errors.
  • Maintains patient comfort and privacy.
  • Notifies Nurse when patient has pain.
  • Maintains and prepares room between patients and procedures.
  • Documents patient care performed, including vital signs, bedside care and observations.
  • Maintains stock and supplies as needed.
  • Performs other re related duties as assigned or requested.

 

COMMUNICATION AND INTERPERSONAL EXPECTATIONS:

  • Demonstrates communication skills necessary to interact with persons of varying age and/or cultures.
  • Answers telephone as assigned, routes calls or takes messages appropriately.
  • Supports the Mission and Philosophy of the hospital and the Department. Demonstrates an understanding and application of these policies.
  • Respects confidentiality.
  • Utilizes chain of command appropriately to resolve issues.
  • Utilizes chain of command appropriately to resolve issues.
  • Promotes an environment in which the patient care team can work cooperatively toward objectives.
  • Uses verbal, nonverbal, and written communication skills, which reflect professional nursing standards; communicates effectively with co-workers, medical staff, and ancillary departments.
  • Demonstrates a high level of mental and emotional tolerance, even temperament, tact, sensitivity, sound judgment, and a professional attitude when relating with patients and families.

  • Communicates appropriately, positively, and clearly to physicians, staff, and management.
  • Consults other departments as appropriate to provide and collaborate in patient care and performance improvement activities.
  • Demonstrates the ability to be flexible, organized and function well under stressful situations.
  • Reports to work on time and as scheduled, completes work within designated time.

 

QUALITY IMPROVEMENT / LEGAL COMPLIANCE:

Quality Improvement

  • Participates in hospital quality activities as required.
  • Participates in department quality activities as required.
  • The employee will adhere to organizational/-departmental customer service standards.

Demonstrates understanding of Legal Compliance issues and their responsibilities for same.

    • Participates in yearly legal compliance training.
    • Explains departmental chain of command.
    • Explains purpose of Legal Compliance Hotline and utilizes if indicated.
    • Participates in departmental Legal Compliance plan.
    • Attend Orientation/Re-Orientation.
    • Completed Annual Department Competencies.
    • Recognizes and responds appropriately to ethical dilemmas; confers with appropriate resource personnel when making ethical decisions.

     

    PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT:

    Promotes positive public relations for the department and the hospital.

    • Presents self in a professional manner; assists in community service programs as requested.
    • Adheres to dress code, appearance is neat and clean.
    • Wears ID badge while on duty, with name and face visible.
    • Comes to work on time and completes work within designated timeframes.
    • Maintains standards of professional society procedures and ethical behavior.
    • Works at maintaining a good rapport and a cooperative working relationship with physicians, departments, and staff.
    • Effectively communicates to personnel and encourages interactive departmental meetings and discussion.

     

    Attends required department meetings, in-services and educational programs.

    • Attends a minimum of 50% of staff meetings.
    • Attends a minimum of 50% of all inservices.
    • Follows up to read or find information on missed meetings and inservices.
    • Completes annual education within one month of EOD.
    • Provides education to staff on performance improvement. Ability to plan and organize orientation and in-service training for unit staff members. Participates in guidance and educational programs.

    Completes annual review of mandatory requirements within one month from employment date
