Serving a seven county service area from its location in Victoria, DeTar Hospital Navarro is a major medical resource for its region. More than 22,500 people utilize the services of DeTar Hospital Navarro and its sister facility, DeTar Hospital North every month.

In addition to everything expected from full-service acute care hospitals, the DeTar hospitals also provide an Emergency/Trauma Department, Urgent Care Centers, Rural Medical Clinics in surrounding communities, a Health Wellness Center, a Senior Care Center, an Occupational Medicine Center, inpatient & outpatient rehabilitation, a Sleep Disorders Center and now the new Women & Children's Center. DeTar Hospital Navarro is licensed for 193 inpatient beds, has a medical staff of more than 238, and is accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health Care Organizations (JCAHO).

DeTar Hospital Navarro was the first hospital in the Texas Crossroads to receive Level III Trauma designation. In 2010 we purchased the Da Vinci robot and completed the year with over 250 cases. In 2011 our imaging services were expanded to include the Philips 1.0 Tesla Open Concept MRI

Gastroenterologist Opportunity – DeTar Healthcare System (Victoria, TX)
Build the region’s GI presence in a high-demand market

DeTar Healthcare System is seeking a BC/BE Gastroenterologist to establish a full-scope practice within our growing health system. This is an exceptional opportunity to step into a community with significant unmet GI demand, supported by a strong primary care network and surgical team.

Position Highlights

Hospital-employed role with full administrative and operational support
No existing dedicated GI provider onsite — general surgeons currently manage GI call and perform colonoscopies/EGDs
High community need with substantial referral volume ready on day one
Inpatient/Outpatient mix: flexible; proportions shaped by candidate preference and demand
Clinic schedule: Mon-Thu: 8am-5pm; Fri: 8am-12pm (half day)
Clinic volume: 20-25 patients per clinic session
Procedures:
- Current surgical team performs colonoscopies and EGDs; ERCP preferred but not required
- Strong opportunity to expand GI procedural offerings and volumes
- General surgeons will continue to share GI ER call; new GI can expect ~10 days of call per month
APP Support
- Two NPs currently support general surgery and can support GI
- Plan to add additional NP as volumes grow
Resident Mentorship: opportunity to teach Family Medicine residents who rotate through specialty departments

Victoria , Texas, known as the South Texas Crossroads, is one of the oldest cities in Texas. Five major state highways cross in Victoria, which is conveniently located just 30 minutes from the welcoming beaches of the Gulf Coast, and within a two-hour drive of the state’s largest metro areas—Houston, Austin, San Antonio and Corpus Christi.

With a population of 60,000 (80,000 in the county) and a retail trade area of over 250,000, Victoria is a cultural, historic and economic hub for the surrounding seven counties. From a growth standpoint, in August of 2010, Caterpillar announced that it has selected Victoria as the location for the company's new state-of-the-art hydraulic excavator manufacturing facility. The facility is expected to begin production in mid-2012.

Schools

In 2007, a 159 million dollar bond was passed to improve Victoria schools. Funds were allocated for 2 new high schools, 1 new middle school, 2 new elementary schools and a District Event Center. The is now the largest public school system in the Golden Crescent region with 15 elementary schools, three middle schools, a two-campus high school as well as a magnet high school, 103 total buildings, 14 athletic fields and more than 2,200 employees. Also in place within the VISD system are Magnet School programs, including a Montessori program, programs for gifted students, a campus at Devereau Foundation for those students with exceptional needs, one alternative program campus as well as a vocational education campus that offers classes in welding, computer networking, food management and production, cosmetology, auto repair and building trades.
