Medical Director of Heart Failure with Carilion Clinic Roanoke, VA

Carilion Clinic is seeking a Medical Director of Heart Failure Services to lead the growth and expansion of heart failure care across its integrated system of seven hospitals and multiple outpatient clinics serving nearly one million residents of southwestern Virginia.

The primary site for advanced therapies will be Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital (CRMH), a 703-bed Level 1 Trauma, Academic, and Tertiary Care Center, where advanced heart failure services include left ventricular assist devices (LVADs). The Medical Director will provide strategic and clinical leadership to elevate heart failure care across the entire continuum of disease severity and throughout all clinical sites.

Position Overview

This is a high-impact leadership role within a nationally recognized cardiovascular network. The Medical Director of Heart Failure will lead a multidisciplinary team of physicians, advanced practice providers, and staff to further develop an outstanding, systemwide heart failure program.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and expand heart failure services across inpatient and outpatient settings
• Further develop the Heart Failure Clinic to improve patient access and expand services
• Identify and manage patients at risk for mortality, hospital readmission, and adverse outcomes
• Refine and oversee a comprehensive inpatient heart failure consultative service for high-risk hospitalized patients
• Evaluate patients for ventricular assist device (VAD) therapy, including destination therapy and bridge-to-transplant support
• Coordinate care with regional heart transplant centers
• Provide formal and bedside teaching for cardiology fellows, internal medicine residents, and other learners
• Participate in and support clinical research aligned with the academic mission

• 6 Cardiac Catheterization Labs
• 3 Electrophysiology Labs
• 76 ICU and Progressive Care inpatient rooms

• 95 Dedicated Emergency Department beds
• 40-bed Emergency Department Observation Unit

The Heart Failure Clinic is located within the Crystal Spring Tower and includes expanded exam space, an outpatient infusion suite, dedicated physician and APP offices, and a conference room designed to support multidisciplinary care.
