Job Description

Faculty position employed by the University of Texas at Tyler School of Medicine, practicing in UT Health East Texas facilities.

The UT Tyler School of Medicine - Department of Surgery is currently recruiting for a faculty member who practices colorectal surgery. The applicant must be Board-Certified or eligible in General Surgery, have completed a colon and rectal surgery fellowship by the time of the appointment, and be eligible for a Texas Medical License.

About the Position:

  • Faculty appointment with the UT Tyler School of Medicine – Department of Surgery
  • Practice comprehensive colon and rectal surgery at a high-functioning Level 1 Trauma Center
  • Schedule: 2 OR days (7:00 AM–5:00 PM) and 3 clinic days (8:00 AM–5:00 PM), with an average of 4–6 cases in the OR and 14–16 patients per clinic day
  • Provide elective and emergency colorectal surgical care, including:
    • Management of bowel obstruction, gastrointestinal perforation, and severe colorectal infection
    • Treatment of hemorrhoids, anal fissures and fistulas, rectal prolapse, and perianal disease
    • Management of pelvic floor disorders and fecal incontinence
    • Office-based and operative anorectal procedures
  • Participate in shared call coverage with General Surgery, with primary responsibility for colorectal-related consults
  • Perform minimally invasive procedures, including laparoscopic and robotic surgery
  • Actively engage in medical education, including teaching general surgery residents, and medical students
