Summary:
Assist Orthopedic Surgeons, Sports Medicine Physician, and residents in the provision of safe and effective treatment of orthopedic injuries.
CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospital - Westover Hills (CSRH-WH) is a 150-bed hospital serving the fastest growing area of San Antonio. Specialized care includes orthopedic and surgical services, ICU, women’s services, a newborn nursery, comprehensive cardiovascular care from diagnostics to open heart surgery, vascular lab, sleep center, emergency services, the CHRISTUS Weight Loss Institute, wound care, rehabilitation, and more. The campus also boasts an Outpatient Imaging Center and three medical plazas, one of which houses our CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Family Medicine Residency Program and CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Family Health Center.
Responsibilities:
- Assist orthopedic surgeons and residents with preventing or correcting disorders of the locomotor structures of the body
- Apply, adjust, and remove cast per physician's order; inform physician of any complications. Take necessary precautions to protect fractures and surgical repairs during cast/splint changes.
- Assist in assembling traction apparatus according to physician's order
- Fit strapping and splints according to physician's order
- Assess skin condition, wounds, and incisions under cast, splint or orthopedic appliance. Inform physician of any complications.
- Assess problem traction conditions and make corrective modifications informing physician of any complications.
- Monitor cast room area and equipment
- Maintain inventory within budgeted financial parameters
- Facilitate compliance with JCAHO and VUMC guidelines at all times
- Troubleshoot with manager as needed
- Instruct patients/families on cast/splint care
- Provide necessary information, clearly and concisely at time of service
- Answer patient/family questions as appropriate
- Seek out additional resources as needed
- May assist in the education/training of Medical Students and Residents.
- Conduct training presentation on proper techniques of splinting and casting.

Requirements:
Education
- Must have a high school diploma or GED.
- Medical Assistant Certification, preferred. Certification from an accredited school for Orthopedic Technicians preferred.
Experience
- Two years of orthopedic experience in an office or clinic setting preferred. Must be able to use computers
Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications
- CPR certification required (American Heart Association)

8AM - 5PM Monday-Friday
