We’re seeking an Emergency Medicine physician to cover shifts in Altoona and Everett, PA, starting 11/17/2025 with ongoing coverage. This is a locum tenens, clinical-only role based in hospital emergency departments.

Schedule and coverage

• Altoona: 10-hour shifts (6a–4p, 8a–6p, 11a–9p, 1p–11p, 3p–1a, 5p–3a, 9p–7a)
• Everett: 12-hour shifts (7a–7p, 7p–7a)
• Coverage begins 11/17/2025

Patient population and volume

• Ages: pediatrics through geriatrics
• Altoona ED sees ~51,000 visits/year (avg ~137 per 24 hours)
• Everett ED sees ~18,000 visits/year (avg ~51 per 24 hours)
• Case mix includes a broad range of emergency presentations and acute/trauma cases
• Admissions are part of the role

Facility and support

• Department size: 380 beds
• Trauma designation: Level III
• EMR: Cerner
• Standard ED equipment and full support staff, including physicians and APPs (APP coverage 24/7)
• Specialty backup available (including anesthesia)

Privileges, credentialing, and compliance

• Hospital privileges required (full privileges)
• Typical credentialing timeline: ~90 days

Compensation and logistics

• Travel, lodging, and malpractice arrangements provided
• Expenses covered: lodging, mileage, parking, rental car & fuel, ground transportation

Required procedures and scope

• Expect to perform core emergency procedures: intubations, chest tubes, central lines, joint and fracture reductions, joint aspirations, laceration repair, I&D, and other EM procedures within scope

Qualifications

• Active Pennsylvania medical license required (IMLC considered)
• Board certified or eligible in Emergency Medicine (ABEM accepted)
• Active DEA registration required
• Minimum 2 years of Emergency Medicine experience and completion of an EM residency
• Certifications: CPR and stroke certification required; ATLS/ACLS/BLS/PALS not required if BC/BE
• Must be willing to work night shifts

Key responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care across all ages in the ED
• Manage a variety of acute and emergent conditions, including trauma
• Perform emergency procedures as needed
• Collaborate with and supervise APPs and other team members; sign-off on APP charts where required
