This position serves as a manager (includes planning, directing subordinates, and interpreting policy)

 

Job Summary:

 

Under the direction of the Administrator, this position plans, organizes and directs the Nursing Department of a Medicare certified, skilled nursing facility and the provision of nursing care and services to its Veterans/Members. Oversees training/ education programs for nursing personnel. Determines the appropriate therapeutic, physical and nursing environment, the necessary levels of nursing staff, the operational procedures and the evaluation of outcomes. Ensures all client nursing home regulations are met. Serves as a member of the management team and on a number of facility committees. Interacts, as needed, with key management staff. Serves as a liaison with the Medical Director and providers relative to treatment plans, policies and procedures and regulatory implementation. Learns, implements and monitors client Management System methods. Utilizes client Management System concepts and tools for problem solving and continuous work/process improvements and efficiency.

 

Major Responsibilities/Essential Functions:

 

Plans, organizes and directs nursing functions to comply with long-and short-term goals, facility policies and procedures, nursing home regulations, and budget.

Responsible for the provision of nursing care and services to Veterans/Members 24 hours per day, seven days per week. Determines nursing staff requirements including levels of training needed and allocation to treatment function and areas. Ensures adequate staff to meet direct care needs, assessments, planning, evaluation and supervision. Provides assistance on units or with supervision as required. Hires, supervises, evaluates, counsels, and disciplines staff. Reviews and evaluates staff job performance through monthly 1 on 1 coaching sessions and annual appraisals.

Participates actively in the Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI), clinical meetings, and other facility meetings as directed by the Administrator. Directs a nursing education program to promote growth and development of nursing personnel. Oversees client staff compliance with annual TB skin testing requirements. Oversees the development, presentation and tracking of mandatory in-service training for client staff.

Conducts investigations of policy issues, staff and veteran/member allegations and other potential disciplinary problems, taking corrective action as necessary. Makes regulatory reports as indicated.

Actively involved in client Management System processes such huddle boards, problem solving, job breakdown sheets, success tracking, and standardized work. Serves on committees and attends related meetings. Completes special projects as assigned. Assumes staff assignments when necessary. Consults with client and facility managers relative to program objectives, staffing and equipment needs, budget, operational policies and procedures and management issues. Assists Administrator in preparing for surveys.

Knowledge:

 

Advanced nursing knowledge related to clinical management of moderate to complex medical conditions found within a skilled nursing facility

Knowledge of fundamental nursing policies and procedures as they are generally written and applied within the skilled nursing facility

Extensive knowledge of employee management issues including knowledge of scheduling, training, supervision and application of nursing practices

Extensive knowledge of all relevant regulations as they pertain to the skilled nursing facility including OBRA, OSHA and other standards

Extensive knowledge of regulatory requirements related to the quality of resident assessments. Minimum Data Sets and the design and implementation of resident care plans

Extensive knowledge of human resource functions, including recruiting, interviewing, training, coaching/counseling and taking disciplinary action

Knowledge of design and implementation of systems related to work flow, scheduling, quality assurance functions and tracking the frequency and prevalence of quality indicators within the skilled nursing environment

Knowledge of the client Personnel Rules

 

Skill:

 

Skill in managing systems, functions, material/supply resources, human resources and nursing practice

Advanced clinical skills necessary for assessment and planning appropriate medical interventions, especially as they apply to quality indicators

Fundamental nursing skills that may be used when providing nursing care or supervising and assessing the work and practice of other nursing staff

Excellent oral and written communication skills

Problem solving skills as they relate to nursing care and practice, interpersonal relationships, internal/external resources and critical family/resident issues

Management/leadership skills

 

Ability:

Licenses / Certifications:

Active license to practice as a Registered Nurse in AZ

 

Selective Preferences:

Experience in a Skilled Nursing / Long-term Care facility

Supervisory/management experience as a nurse

 

Requirements:

 

Long Term Care experience is a Must

Schedule: Flexible- 7:00am to 3:30pm or 8:30am to 4:30pm TBD on Administrator and Over Time needed.
