Clinical Scope
- Patient population: Adults only
- Case volume: 1–3 cases per day; ~133 cases/year
- Admissions while on call: 1–3
- Typical case mix: Open heart (bypass required), carotid, possible lung cases
- Trauma level: III
- EMR: Meditech
Duties & Workflow
- Morning rounding with PA: 2–4 hours depending on surgical load
- PA manages calls and initial consults; consults are discussed with surgeon by phone to determine next steps
- Surgeon performs urgent/emergent procedures and any cases requiring physician involvement
- PAs perform endovascular saphenous vein harvesting (EVH)
- Coverage often solo (physician will work independently with PA support)
Support
- Mid-level coverage: PA available 7a–7a
- Support staff: PA on service
Requirements
- MD with active state medical license
- Board certified/board eligible in Cardiac or Cardiac & Thoracic
- DEA/CSR
- Minimum 2 years post-training experience

- Travel, lodging, and malpractice insurance provided
