We’re seeking a locum tenens OB/GYN to provide inpatient clinical coverage in Socorro, NM. This role combines daytime clinic shifts with in-house night and weekend call responsibilities and begins 10/16/2025 with ongoing coverage.

Schedule and call

• Clinic: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM.
• Night call: 5:00 PM–8:00 AM.
• Weekend call: Fri 5:00 PM through Mon 8:00 AM as scheduled; provider is on call while working clinic.
• Call type: In-house with a 30-minute response time.
• Upcoming specific coverage dates include: Nov 21–23 (11:00 AM); Nov 27–Dec 2 (AM); Nov 25; Dec 5; Dec 27–28; Jan 9–10; Jan 23 (07:00–19:00); Jan 29–Feb 2 (until 8:00 AM); Feb 12; Feb 19; Feb 26–Mar 1 (AM).

Clinical scope and patient volume

• You will care for obstetric and gynecologic patients, including routine and complicated OB cases and gynecologic surgeries.
• Facility averages ~810 deliveries per month; clinic volume is typically fewer than 15 patients per day.
• Case mix includes mostly low-risk pregnancies with occasional high-risk cases; C-sections comprise about 21% of deliveries.
• Responsibilities include admissions, rounding, phone consults, and continuity of care.

Facility, support, and tools

• EMR: Epic.
• Standard OB/GYN clinic and hospital equipment available.
• On-site specialty backup: two other OBGYNs, RN, MA; C-section assistance is available when you’re on call.
• Support staff: Registered nurses and medical assistants.
• Reason for coverage: supplemental.

Privileges, credentialing, and compliance

• Hospital privileges required; credentialing typically takes 30–90 days. Case logs are required.
• Privileging criteria (past 12 months): at least 50 vaginal deliveries, 20 C-sections, and 25 gynecologic surgeries (including a minimum of 5 major abdominal cases).
• Must meet contagious disease workforce immunity requirements and complete an offsite drug screen within 14 days of start.

Required procedures you should be comfortable performing

• Routine and complicated vaginal deliveries, low forceps deliveries, breech and multiple births.
• Cesarean sections and repair of 3rd and 4th degree lacerations.
• OB ultrasound performance and interpretation (Level I and II).
• Gynecologic surgeries: D&C, hysterectomy, uterine suspension, anterior/posterior repair, tumor resection, incontinence and infertility procedures.
• Laparoscopic and open procedures: diagnostic/minor laparoscopy (tubal ligation, LOA’s), operative laparoscopy (ectopic pregnancy, oophorectomy, cystectomy, extensive LOA’s), appendectomy, repair of bowel injury.

Qualifications

• Eligible for New Mexico medical license.
• BC/BE in OB/GYN; must be certified or actively pursuing ABOG certification within the allowable timeframe (5-year limit).
• Active DEA registration.
• BLS/ACLS typically expected.
• Minimum one year of experience; must supply case logs to meet privileging requirements.
• Proficiency with Epic EMR, strong patient-focused care, and ability to collaborate with the care team.

Compensation and logistics

• Lodging covered up to $132/day; rental car reimbursed up to $40/day; malpractice insurance provided.

Day-to-day responsibilities

• Provide inpatient and outpatient OB/GYN care, manage low- and occasional high-risk pregnancies, perform routine and complex deliveries (including C-sections), and perform gynecologic surgeries as credentialed.
• Interpret fetal monitoring (NST/CST/FSE), perform and interpret OB ultrasounds, complete documentation in Epic, and participate in night and weekend call rotations while collaborating with nursing and provider teams to ensure safe, continuous care.
