We’re seeking an experienced Emergency Medicine physician for a locum tenens opening in Alexandria, LA. This is a clinical-only role based in a busy hospital Emergency Department, starting November 1, 2025, with a minimum commitment of six months and the potential to continue beyond that.
Schedule and Coverage
- Physician shifts (typical patterns): Monday–Wednesday and Thursday–Sunday coverage with shifts including 7a–5p, 10a–8p, 3p–1a, 4p–12a, and overnight 8p–7a (specific shift mix will be assigned).
- APP shifts: Monday–Friday 6a–6p, 8a–7p, 12p–11p, 6p–6a; Saturday–Sunday 6a–6p, 9a–9p, 6p–6a.
- This role supplements existing coverage and works within a staffing model that averages roughly 3.5 FTE physicians (~42 shifts/month) and robust APP coverage.
Patient and Volume Profile
- Adult patient population.
- Annual ED volume is about 49,500 visits (~135 patients/day).
- Admission rate ~22%; ~30% of arrivals via EMS.
Facility and Support
- ED size: 42 beds.
- Strong on-site specialty backup available.
- Scribe support provided ~10 hours/day.
- EMR: currently on Meditech with a planned transition to Epic in March 2025.
- Trauma level: not specified.
Credentials, Privileges, and Onboarding
- Hospital privileges are required; credentialing typically takes about 90 days. Temporary or expedited privileges are not available.
- Orientation: EMR training and a structured SCP orientation with a required shadow shift.
Clinical and Procedural Expectations
- Perform standard emergency medicine procedures appropriate to ED practice.
- This is clinical-only work; no administrative responsibilities are included.
Qualifications
- Board certification in ABEM, AOBEM, or ABFM required. (Family Medicine applicants must document ED work within the past 2 years.)
- Louisiana medical license required (active).
- Residency: EM or FM residency required.
- Experience: If FM trained, a minimum of 2 years of ED experience is required.
- Certifications: ACLS and PALS required; ATLS required for FM candidates.
