Overview

• Locum tenens gastroenterology position in Harrisburg, PA covering inpatient and outpatient procedures.
• Start: November 24, 2025 (ASAP pending privileges). Ongoing coverage.
• Clinical hours: 7:30 AM–4:30 PM (in-hospital).
• On-call hours: 4:30 PM–7:30 AM (pager/night call, 30-minute response).
• Call model: In-house daytime / beeper nighttime. Coverage shared across three hospitals (24/7).

Coverage & Schedule

• Call ratio: Shared across three hospitals; average callback ~10 consults/day across all sites.
• Expected availability: minimum 57 days/month.
• Credentialing timeline: ~60 days. Temporary hospital privileges available.

Patient Population & Volume

• Adults ~95%, pediatric ~5%.
• New consults: ~10/day across three hospitals.
• Inpatient census: up to 40–50 with follow-ups.
• ED phone consults: estimated 2–3/day (total ~23 ED consults/day across sites).

Facility & Support

• EMR: Epic (documentation required).
• Procedure equipment: standard GI procedure equipment available.
• Specialty backup: anesthesia, hospitalists, interventional radiology, surgery, ICU/intensivists.
• Support staff: TBD.

Privileges & Compliance

• Hospital privileges required; temporary privileges available.
• Pennsylvania medical license required (IMLC considered).
• DEA required.
• BLS required.
• Board certified/eligible in Gastroenterology.

Required Procedures & Clinical Skills

• Colonoscopy
• EGD
• Endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) — required
• ERCP — required
• PEG tube placement
• Esophageal varices management and stenting

Experience & Credentials

• Minimum 3 years’ GI experience with demonstrated competence in EUS and ERCP.
• Ability to document care in Epic and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.

Primary Duties

• Provide 24/7 GI call coverage across three hospitals (rotating shifts).
• Perform inpatient GI procedures and manage an average daily procedural/consult volume.
• Manage consults, follow-ups, admissions, rounding, and inpatient discharges.
• Respond to calls within 30 minutes as required.
• Coordinate care with hospitalists, intensivists, surgical teams, and ancillary services.
