Locum Tenens Hematology/Oncology Physician — Outpatient & Inpatient Call, Beckley WV

We’re seeking a Hematology/Oncology physician to provide consistent, high-quality care in Beckley, West Virginia, on a one-year locum tenens contract starting December 1, 2025. This role combines outpatient clinic work with scheduled inpatient call coverage.

Schedule and Coverage

• Contract: 12/01/2025 – 12/01/2026 (1 year)
• Clinical hours: Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
• Call: Inpatient, in-house 24-hour call on a 1:3 rotation (every third week), including weekends
• Call response expectation: within 30 minutes
• Minimum commitment: 3 weeks per month throughout the contract

Patients and Clinical Scope

• Population: Adults (18+)
• Daily volume: approximately 15 patients/day
• Case mix: hematologic and oncologic malignancies, chemotherapy management, infusion therapy
• Admissions and rounding: as needed during inpatient call weeks; rounding included
• Phone consults: expected during call rotation
• Required procedures: bone marrow biopsy

Facility and Support

• EMR: Cerner (proficiency required)
• Equipment: standard oncology treatment and diagnostic tools available
• Support team: nurses, CMAs, APPs; specialty backup from hospitalists, surgery, radiology, and palliative care
• Reason for coverage: to provide ongoing, consistent oncologic services

Privileges, Credentialing, and Compliance

• Hospital privileges: required (temporary privileges available for candidates with clean background and active licensure)
• Credentialing timeline listed: 4560 days
• Pre-application: background and licensure verification required prior to final offer
• Background: must have a clean record with no disciplinary actions

Requirements

• Licensure: active West Virginia medical license
• Board certification: Hematology/Oncology (Oncology fellowship required)
• DEA: required
• Certifications: BLS, ACLS
• Experience: minimum 35 years in hematology/oncology practice (per listing)
• Other expectations: no significant employment gaps; proficiency with Cerner EMR

Duties and Responsibilities

• Provide outpatient hematology and oncology consultations and follow-up care
• Manage chemotherapy regimens and infusion therapy
• Participate in inpatient call rotation, including performing admissions and rounds during call weeks
• Perform and interpret bone marrow biopsies
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (APPs, nurses, hospitalists, and consultants)
• Maintain accurate, timely documentation in Cerner and comply with hospital policies and credentialing requirements
