Job Description

Adelphi is seeking a dedicated part-time Psychiatrist to provide onsite psychiatric care for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities at a facility in Nueces County, Texas. The Psychiatrist will work as part of a multidisciplinary team, conducting evaluations, managing medications, and developing treatment plans to ensure high-quality, person-centered care.

  • Proficient in computer systems and electronic health records (EHR)
  • Minimum of 3 years of psychiatric experience preferred
  • Experience working with individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities, or mental illness, strongly preferred
  • Must complete all compliance and credentialing requirements prior to start date €” no exceptions
  • Must pass a urine drug screening and FBI fingerprint background check
  • Valid government-issued photo ID required

Responsibilities:
  • Diagnose and treat psychiatric disorders.
  • Conduct comprehensive psychiatric assessments and evaluations.
  • Document all clinical encounters accurately and promptly in the electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Collaborate with the medical and interdisciplinary teams to ensure compliance with the Department of Justice (DOJ) Settlement Agreement.
  • Provide medication management, including justification and monitoring of psychotropic medication use.
  • Manage acute psychiatric episodes, authorize emergency medications or restraints, and coordinate hospitalizations when necessary.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary treatment team (IDT) meetings and contribute to individualized care planning.
  • Ensure adherence to all applicable federal, state, and internal clinical standards (DOJ, ICF-IID, etc.).
  • Provide consultation and support to behavioral health and direct care staff.
  • Communicate effectively and work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Interact appropriately and compassionately with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
  • Complete all required agency-specific and state-mandated training prior to assuming full duties.
  • Participate in emergency preparedness and Continuity of Operations Plan (COOP) activities as assigned.
