Location: Canton, TX — Locum Tenens (Hospital-based Emergency Department)
Coverage: Clinical-only; February 2026 – ongoing. 24-hour MD coverage; minimum five shifts per month.

Overview
Provide full-spectrum emergency care in a rural ED managing adult patients with occasional pediatric presentations. This role fills a full-time vacancy within a staffing model that ensures MD coverage around the clock; NP/PA support varies by day.

Clinical scope and duties

• Evaluate and manage ED patients across all acuity levels.
• Perform standard emergency medicine procedures.
• Coordinate transfers and collaborate with hospital teams and available specialists.
• Complete required onboarding, orientation, and training activities.

Schedule & volume

• Shift coverage as part of a 24/7 MD model.
• Minimum commitment: 5 shifts per month.
• Typical patient mix: general emergency medicine (primarily adults; occasional pediatrics).

Facility & support

• Hospital ED with standard emergency equipment.
• NP/PA coverage varies by day.
• Reason for need: full-time vacancy.

Privileges, credentialing & onboarding

• Hospital privileges required; temporary privileges may be possible.
• Credentialing/onboarding timeline: 60+ days.
• Orientation: typically 34 hours; ED shadowing totaling 12 hours. Epic training required prior to start (test-out may be available).

Requirements

• Active Texas medical license.
• Active DEA registration.
• Board certification/eligibility: ABEM preferred. AOBEM, ABFM, or ABIM with strong ED experience accepted. ABPS not accepted.
• Certifications: For EM-boarded physicians, proof of ATLS once; FM/IM-trained physicians require ATLS, ACLS, PALS.
• Strong emergency medicine experience required.
• Epic proficiency preferred.
