Join a rural hospital team in Winnsboro, TX as a Locum Tenens Emergency Medicine physician. You’ll work in a 7-bed emergency department using Epic, covering 7a–7p and 7p–7a shifts on a schedule that starts February 2026 and continues ongoing. We’re asking for a minimum of five shifts per month.

What the role looks like day-to-day

• Provide full clinical emergency care for primarily adult patients, with occasional pediatric cases.
• Expect about 25 patient encounters per shift in a lower-volume, rural ED.
• All admissions are transferred to the main Christus Mother Frances campus, so no inpatient rounding.
• Perform standard emergency procedures and manage the full range of cases that present to the department.
• Coordinate transfers and use Epic for charting and workflows.

Facility and support

• 7 ED beds, annual ED volume ~9,175 visits.
• Full lab on site; no onsite specialty backup or NP/PA coverage and no scribe support.
• Staffing model provides physician coverage 24/7 with 7a–7p and 7p–7a shifts.
• Reason for coverage: filling a full-time vacancy and supporting system staffing expansion.

Credentials, compliance, and onboarding

• Active Texas medical license and DEA required.
• Board certification: ABEM preferred; AOBEM, ABFM, or ABIM with strong ED experience accepted (ABPS not accepted).
• Certification requirements: EM BC providers must document ATLS once; FM/IM-trained candidates need ATLS, ACLS, and PALS.
• Temporary privileges may be possible; credentialing/onboarding typically takes 60+ days.
• Orientation requirements include a 34-hour morning orientation, 12 hours of ED shadowing, and Epic training (test-out option available). Epic proficiency preferred.
