Locums Emergency Medicine Physician

We are seeking a Board-Certified Emergency Medicine Physician to provide locum tenens coverage in Elkader, Iowa. This opportunity offers a low-volume environment where the provider functions as the sole clinician covering both the Emergency Department and the Med/Surg floor.

 

Position Details

 

• Setting: Emergency Department + Med/Surg coverage
• Shift Type: Day Shifts
• Responsibilities:
• Serve as the sole provider managing all ED and inpatient Med/Surg needs
• Evaluate, treat, and stabilize patients in a rural ED setting
• Perform rounding, admissions, and basic inpatient management
• Collaborate with nursing and support staff to ensure high-quality patient care

 

Patient & Practice Information

 

• ER Volume: ~3.6 patients per day
• Med/Surg Census: ~1.4 patients per day
• EMR: EPIC

 

Requirements

 

• Board Certified (EM, FM, or IM depending on facility requirements)
• Active Iowa Medical License
• Active DEA and Iowa Controlled Substance Registration (CSR)
• Prior experience in low-volume or rural emergency settings preferred
