Locums Thoracic Surgery Physician

We are seeking an experienced Locums Thoracic Surgery Physician to provide high-acuity surgical call coverage in Richmond, VA. This position is hospital-based and focuses on acute care thoracic surgery, offering exposure to a wide range of complex procedures and pathology.

 

Position Details

 

• Shift Type: 24-hour call shifts (7:00 AM – 7:00 AM)
• Setting: Hospital-based, acute care
• Average Cases per Day: 2–3
• Duration: Ongoing locum coverage needs

 

Required Procedural Competencies

 

• Thoracic surgical procedures: Bronchoscopy, VATS, Robot-Assisted Thoracic Surgery, Mediastinoscopy, Tube Thoracostomy, Tracheostomy, Pericardial Window, Lobectomy, Pneumonectomy, Thoracotomy, Decortication
• Endoscopic procedures: Navigational Bronchoscopy, Endobronchial Ultrasound (EBUS), Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS)
• Management of thoracic conditions: Lung cancer, esophageal disorders, pleural effusions, pneumothorax, mediastinal masses, rib fractures, thoracic outlet syndrome, diaphragm hernias, and advanced lung disease (COPD, pulmonary fibrosis)

 

Requirements

• Board Certified in Thoracic Surgery
• Active Virginia Medical License – required (no exceptions)
• BLS & ACLS certifications
• Strong experience in high-acuity thoracic surgical care
• Ability to manage emergent and complex thoracic cases independently
