Join a busy inpatient team in Roseburg, OR, covering pediatric and newborn care on a locum tenens, call-only basis. You’ll round on pediatric inpatients and newborns in the Family Birth Center and serve as the attending physician for inpatient pediatrics and ED consults. This role is supplemental coverage beginning January 2026 and ongoing.

What the schedule looks like

  • Call-only coverage: 24-hour beeper call (7a–7a) with about 8 hours of rounding expected daily.
  • Shifts needed: March–June (specific dates negotiable).
  • Call response: 15 minutes for emergencies.
  • Average callback hours: 8.44 on weekdays, 6.49 on weekends.

Patient mix and volume

  • Pediatrics and newborns: typically ~4 pediatric inpatients (up to 12 during respiratory season) and ~46 newborns on average.
  • Admissions: about 2 pediatric admissions per day.
  • Phone consults and ED consults are part of the role.
  • Case mix emphasizes newborn care, pediatric admissions, stabilization and transfer of critically ill patients.

Clinical environment and support

  • Facility: Inpatient service, Family Birth Center, ED; 6-bed pediatric unit.
  • Nursery levels: Level I and Level II.
  • Team: 1 full-time pediatrician on site, RT + RN response team, students/residents present.
  • Specialty backup: Neonatology consult and transport support available.
  • EMR: PatientKeeper (interfaces with Meditech).
  • Travel, lodging, and malpractice insurance are provided.

Procedures and skills required

  • Must be able to perform: lumbar puncture, neonatal and pediatric intubation, umbilical line placement, neonatal resuscitation, and IVIG administration.
  • Required recent experience (within 24 months): endotracheal intubation/ventilation management, newborn care, lumbar puncture, and umbilical line placement.

Qualifications

  • Active OR medical license.
  • Board certified or board eligible in Pediatrics.
  • DEA registration.
  • Clean malpractice history.
  • Local candidates preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide attending-level care for inpatient pediatrics and consults from the ED.
  • Stabilize critically ill children and arrange transfers as needed.
  • Round on newborns and pediatric inpatients, supervise trainees, and participate in phone consults.
