Locums Plastic Surgery Physician

We are seeking an experienced Board-Certified Plastic Surgery Physician to provide locum tenens coverage in Des Moines, Iowa. This is a full-time need with initial call coverage and the opportunity to expand into clinic and OR responsibilities as needs evolve. The position supports both inpatient and outpatient services within a well-resourced health system.

 

Schedule & Coverage

 

• Patient Contact Hours: 36 hours per week
• Clinic Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:30 AM – 4:30 PM
• Procedure/OR Days: 2–4 days per week (as assigned)
• Call Coverage:
• Soft tissue trauma call plus clinic call/EMTALA
• Weekend call as needed
• Scheduling Options:
• 7 days on / 7 days off OR
• 2 weeks on / 2 weeks off
• Start: ASAP
• Initial Coverage: Call-only to start; clinic and OR needs may be added in the future

 

Practice Setting

 

• Inpatient coverage
• No outreach or telehealth responsibilities
• Teaching opportunities available

 

Clinical Responsibilities

 

• Trauma call coverage and ER consults
• In-office consultations and procedures
• Reconstructive surgery collaboration with breast surgeons
• Inpatient consults and postoperative management
• Participation in clinic and operative care as assigned

 

Patient & Practice Details

 

• Daily Clinic Volume: 16+ visits per full clinic day (based on visit type)
• Appointment Length: 15–30 minutes
• Patient Population: Surgical and cosmetic patients of all ages
• Imaging, Lab, Pharmacy: On-site and available

• EMR: Epic

 

Qualifications

 

• Board Certified in Plastic Surgery
• Active Iowa medical license or active IMLC
• Proven experience in plastic and reconstructive surgery
• Ability to manage trauma, reconstructive, and office-based procedures
