Locum Tenens Emergency Medicine Physician — Mt. Pleasant, MI (Inpatient/Outpatient; 8a/8p Rotating Nights)

We’re seeking an Emergency Medicine locum to join a busy community hospital in Mount Pleasant, MI, starting Jan 31, 2026, with ongoing coverage. This is a clinical-only role supporting both inpatient and outpatient emergency services.

Shift pattern and coverage

• Coverage begins Jan 31, 2026 and continues on an ongoing basis.
• Typical shift rotation: 7-day schedule with 8a–8p and 8p–8a shifts.
• Specific short-term shift to fill: 8p–8a, Jan 31–Feb 1.

Patient volume and department

• Annual ED volume: ~20,000 visits (average ~54 patients/day).
• Department has 18 beds and is a Level IV trauma center.
• About 90% of admissions come through the ED; typically 8 patients admitted per day and ~2 patients transferred daily.
• This ED does not operate a fast track.

Team and support

• Current physician coverage: 5 (4 full-time, 1 PRN).
• APP coverage: 3 (1 full-time, 2 PRN); APP shift is 11a–9p daily. You will be required to supervise APPs.
• Support staff includes 1 full-time and 2 PRN APPs.
• Specialty back-up available from hospitalists, anesthesiology, and cardiology.
• 24-hour support services: radiology (CT and XR, no MRI), laboratory, ortho, pathology, and operating room. Anesthesia is available for daytime backup. Labor & Delivery has its own clinic; cardiology provides official EKG reads.

Clinical responsibilities

• Provide full ED clinical coverage, supervise APPs, monitor and coordinate with paramedics/ambulance by radio, and respond to in-hospital codes.
• Hospitalists primarily manage admissions and lead codes; cardiology interprets EKGs officially.

Systems and logistics

• EMR: Cerner.
• Travel, lodging, and malpractice insurance will be provided.

Requirements

• Active Michigan medical license.
• Board-certified in Emergency Medicine (or Family Practice with 2+ years of ER experience).
• DEA registration, BLS certification.
• Current ATLS/PALS (ATLS required for EM-boarded; PALS/ATLS expectations depend on credentialing).
• Clean professional record and local candidate preferred.
• Up-to-date immunizations, including COVID and flu.
