We’re looking for a Hematology/Oncology physician to provide locum tenens inpatient and clinic coverage in Providence, RI, starting March 9, 2026 and continuing on an ongoing basis. This role combines scheduled clinic shifts with weekday and weekend call coverage to support the hospital’s hematology and oncology services.
Schedule and coverage
- Clinical shifts: Wednesdays and Fridays, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM (about 16 scheduled clinical hours per week)
- On-call: Weekday call 5:00 PM–8:00 AM; weekend call 7:00 AM Saturday–7:00 AM Monday (beeper coverage)
- Additional inpatient coverage may be requested on weekdays and weekends as needed
Patient population and workload
- Adult patients only
- Outpatient clinic volume is high; inpatient consult volume varies day-to-day
- Admissions: consult-based with daily inpatient rounding (rounding time may run up to ~12 hours depending on consult volume)
- Phone consults are part of the role
- Case mix: general hematology and oncology, including biopsy procedures as required
Facility and support
- EMR: Meditech
- Standard oncology clinic equipment available
- Multidisciplinary specialty backup and nursing/clinical support staff onsite
- This engagement is intended as supplemental coverage
Credentials and compliance
- Rhode Island medical license and active DEA required (temporary or emergency privileges may be available)
- Board certified in Hematology/Oncology with verification required
- Clinical hematology/oncology experience required
Responsibilities
- Provide outpatient hematology and oncology clinic care on scheduled days
- Perform inpatient consults and daily rounding according to consult volume
- Complete biopsies and related procedures as needed
- Document all patient encounters accurately in Meditech (and paper charts where used)

- Travel, lodging, airfare, and car rental expenses covered
