Locums Hematology/Oncology Physician

We are seeking a Locums Medical Hematology/Oncology Physician to provide coverage at an established outpatient cancer center in Grand Rapids, Michigan. This opportunity offers a balanced mix of outpatient clinic work with shared call responsibilities, supported by a multidisciplinary oncology team.

Position Details

 

• Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
• Practice Setting: Outpatient Cancer Center
• Patient Population: Adult & Geriatric
• Trauma Level: Level II
• Call Schedule:
• If part of call pool: Monday–Sunday
• Weekday evening telephone call
• Weekend inpatient rounding with APP support
• Call Ratio: 1 in 5

 

Clinical Focus

 

• Practice mix is approximately 60% Hematology / 40% Oncology
• Primary focus: Lung Cancer
• Secondary focus: General/benign hematology for patients not assigned to specialty physicians
• Current team includes subspecialists in Breast, GI, GU, Neuro, and Lung Oncology (at a different location)

 

Patient Volume

 

• Outpatient Clinic:
• 8–16 patients per day
• 7–8 hours of scheduled patient appointment time
• Hospital Call/Rounding:
• Average combined census of 22 patients across two hospitals
• Approximately 4–5 new patients

 

Responsibilities

 

• Evaluate and manage oncology and hematology patients in the outpatient setting
• Perform FNA/Biopsy procedures
• Participate in Tumor Board meetings
• Order diagnostic tests and imaging
• Prescribe medications and develop treatment plans
• Provide inpatient rounding and consultative support while on call

 

Requirements

 

• Board Certified or Truly Board Eligible in Medical Oncology
• Active Michigan medical license (or willingness to obtain)
• BLS certification
