Minimum requirements:

• Active Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license for the state of practice
• BLS certification (current)

Core responsibilities:

• Provide direct nursing care under RN/physician guidance (medication administration, wound care, vital signs)
• Conduct patient assessments (physical exam, medical history, medication review) and follow care plans
• Administer medications and treatments accurately, per protocol
• Assess, clean, dress, and monitor wounds and incisions for infection/complications
• Monitor and document vital signs and changes in patient condition
• Maintain accurate patient records of treatments, medications, and observations
• Educate patients and families on conditions, medications, and self-care
• Administer and monitor IV medications/fluids and maintain IV lines as authorized
• Care for urinary catheters (insertion, maintenance, monitoring) as within scope
• Collect samples (blood, urine, sputum) for lab testing
• Collaborate with RNs, physicians, therapists, and support staff to coordinate care
• Provide basic comfort and safety measures (positioning, mobility assistance, pain management)
• Respond to medical emergencies following protocols and provide basic life support
• Follow infection control practices and proper PPE use
• Handle, store, and dispose of medications and supplies per regulations
• Promote preventive care (vaccinations, screenings) and assist with health assessments
• Advocate for patient rights and needs
• Supervise CNAs or unlicensed assistive personnel when assigned
• Complete other duties as assigned by management
