We’re seeking a nephrologist to join a hospital-based team in Wichita, KS for locum tenens coverage beginning 06-01-2026. This role blends clinical clinic sessions with inpatient consults and on-call responsibilities, supporting adult and geriatric veterans.

What you’ll do

  • Provide full-spectrum nephrology care for inpatient and outpatient veterans, including consults, rounding, and phone consultations.
  • Manage dialysis therapies and kidney replacement treatments (hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis oversight).
  • Perform procedures as privileged: vascular access management, central venous dialysis catheter placement, and kidney biopsy.
  • Participate in on-call coverage (evenings, weekends, holidays) and respond per established timelines.
  • Document care in the State Electronic Health Record and follow facility and agency policies.

Schedule & call expectations

  • Clinical shift: Thursdays, 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM.
  • On-call: weekday daytime (8:00 AM – 4:00 PM), weeknight on-call (4:00 PM – 8:00 AM), weekend on-call (24-hour shifts), plus holiday day and night coverage per monthly schedule.
  • Call type: beeper. Response expectations: answer phone within 15 minutes and arrive on-site within 60 minutes.
  • Call ratio: TBD.

Patient mix & volume

  • Adult and geriatric veteran population.
  • Typical clinic census: about 8 patients per clinic session, plus inpatient consult volume.
  • Case mix includes acute kidney injury, chronic kidney disease, end-stage kidney disease, dialysis management, transplant follow-up, electrolyte disorders, and hypertension.

Facility & support

  • Hospital setting with multispecialty backup on-site.
  • RN and interdisciplinary clinical staff available to support care.
  • State Electronic Health Record in use and standard office equipment provided.
  • Department bed count and trauma level: TBD.

Privileges, credentialing & compliance

  • Hospital privileges required; temporary privileges available.
  • Credentialing timeline: approximately 30–90 days.
  • Must comply with facility credentialing and documentation requirements.

Qualifications

  • Active, unrestricted medical license in any U.S. state or territory.
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Nephrology.
  • Active DEA registration.
  • BLS or ACLS certification.
  • Recent graduates (up to 4 years) and experienced providers are welcome.
