We’re seeking a board-certified or board-eligible ophthalmologist to provide inpatient and outpatient coverage in Columbia, South Carolina. This is a locum tenens opportunity starting June 1, 2026, with the potential to convert to a longer-term contract.
Schedule and coverage
- Clinical hours: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:30 PM (primarily direct patient care).
- Call: At least one week per month (including a weekend). Call is phone-based, with rotating coverage among facility providers.
- On-call expectations: Available by phone within 15 minutes and able to be onsite within 60 minutes.
- Duties include phone consults and inpatient rounding.
Clinical scope and practice
- Approximately 95% direct patient care and 5% administrative duties.
- Practice includes comprehensive clinical ophthalmology with the full range of oculoplastic and glaucoma services.
- Procedures performed on-site as part of clinical duties.
- EMR: CPRS.
- Hospital privileges required; temporary privileges available.
Credentials and requirements
- Active, unrestricted medical license in any U.S. state or territory.
- Board Certified or Board Eligible by the American Board of Ophthalmology (ABO).
- BLS and ACLS certifications.
- DEA registration and NPI required.
- NPDB report required.
- Note: Candidates with any history of license restriction, suspension, revocation, voluntary surrender pending action, or denial will not be considered for this contract.

- Travel, lodging, and malpractice insurance will be provided.
