Locum Tenens Ophthalmologist — Inpatient/Outpatient, Columbia SC (Clinical+Call, Travel & Malpractice Covered)

We’re seeking a board-certified or board-eligible ophthalmologist to provide inpatient and outpatient coverage in Columbia, South Carolina. This is a locum tenens opportunity starting June 1, 2026, with the potential to convert to a longer-term contract.

Schedule and coverage

• Clinical hours: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:30 PM (primarily direct patient care).
• Call: At least one week per month (including a weekend). Call is phone-based, with rotating coverage among facility providers.
• On-call expectations: Available by phone within 15 minutes and able to be onsite within 60 minutes.
• Duties include phone consults and inpatient rounding.

Clinical scope and practice

• Approximately 95% direct patient care and 5% administrative duties.
• Practice includes comprehensive clinical ophthalmology with the full range of oculoplastic and glaucoma services.
• Procedures performed on-site as part of clinical duties.
• EMR: CPRS.
• Hospital privileges required; temporary privileges available.

Credentials and requirements

• Active, unrestricted medical license in any U.S. state or territory.
• Board Certified or Board Eligible by the American Board of Ophthalmology (ABO).
• BLS and ACLS certifications.
• DEA registration and NPI required.
• NPDB report required.
• Note: Candidates with any history of license restriction, suspension, revocation, voluntary surrender pending action, or denial will not be considered for this contract.

• Travel, lodging, and malpractice insurance will be provided.
