Locum Tenens Physician Assistant – Neurosurgery (Spine-Focused, Epic, Travel/Lodging Covered)

We’re seeking a Physician Assistant to join a neurosurgery team in Cooperstown, NY, on a locum tenens basis starting 04/15/2026 with an initial one-year assignment and the option to extend. This role covers both inpatient and outpatient settings and focuses on clinical care only. Typical weekday schedule is Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM. There’s no required call, though optional call shifts are available for additional pay.

Who you’ll care for

• Adult patients across a broad neurosurgical practice: roughly 80% spine and 20% cranial cases.
• Volume varies with the elective surgery schedule.
• You’ll manage admissions (including ICU consults), perform rounding and phone consults as clinically appropriate, and participate in perioperative care.

What the facility provides

• Epic EMR.
• Standard neurosurgical and OR equipment.
• Full-time neurosurgery attending on site and APP coverage with formal sign-out for evenings/weekends.
• This is supplemental locum coverage.

Privileges and credentialing

• Hospital privileges are required; temporary privileges are available through expedited credentialing.
• Standard credentialing timeline is ~120 days; expedited processing has been requested.

Required procedures and clinical duties

• First assist in neurosurgical cases.
• Suturing, wound management, and wound aspirations.
• Preoperative and postoperative patient management.
• Inpatient consults and evaluations.
• Documentation of encounters and procedures in Epic.
• Collaborate closely with the attending neurosurgeon and the broader care team.

Qualifications

• Active New York PA license or ability to obtain one.
• PA certification required.
• Neurosurgery or surgical first-assist experience preferred.
• Experience with Epic EMR preferred.
