Locum Hematology/Oncology Physician — Waterloo, IA | Inpatient/Outpatient, Epic, Travel & Lodging Covered

We’re seeking a fellowship-trained hematology/oncology physician to provide supplemental locum tenens coverage in Waterloo, IA. This is a clinical role with phone call coverage, covering both inpatient and outpatient settings on a Monday–Thursday schedule (8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m.), with an expected 16 shifts per month. Coverage starts ASAP and is ongoing.

What the schedule looks like

• Clinical shifts: Mon–Thurs, 8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m., ~16 shifts/month
• Call: one weeknight and one weekend per month (phone calls only)
• Patient mix: adults; outpatient volume ~16–20/day, inpatient consults 0–2/day
• Visit times: follow-ups 15–20 minutes, consults ~60 minutes

Clinical responsibilities

• See new consults and follow-up visits in clinic
• Oversee administration of antineoplastic therapy in the clinic
• Perform procedures as needed, including bone marrow biopsy and iron infusions; must be able to perform MUA
• Collaborate with hospitalists who handle admissions

Support and resources

• Four exam rooms, on-site imaging, lab, and pharmacy
• EMR: Epic
• Support staff: 2 APPs, 2 nurses, triage nurses, social workers, dietitian, reception

Common case mix and procedures

• Antineoplastics administration, phlebotomy, IV IgG, iron therapy, bone marrow biopsy, consults and follow-ups

Requirements

• Active Iowa medical license or participation in IMLC
• Board certified in hematology/oncology
• Fellowship-trained
• Clean professional record
• Must be available full-time Monday–Thursday and able to perform MUA
