Requirements:
- Active, valid Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) state license
- BLS certification
Overview:
Provide direct, patient-centered nursing care in collaboration with RNs, physicians, and the interdisciplinary team. This night-shift contract role emphasizes safe medication administration, wound care, monitoring, documentation, and patient education while following established protocols and infection-control standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assess patients through physical exams, health histories, and medication reviews to support individualized care plans.
- Administer medications and treatments accurately, following dosing and facility protocols.
- Perform wound care, dressing changes, and monitor for signs of infection or complications.
- Monitor, record, and interpret vital signs (BP, pulse, temperature, respirations) and report changes promptly.
- Maintain accurate, timely documentation of patient status, treatments, and medication administration.
- Educate patients and families about diagnoses, medications, self-care, and preventive health measures.
- Initiate and monitor IV therapy, ensuring proper line function and site care as indicated by facility policy.
- Manage urinary catheters, including insertion, maintenance, and surveillance for complications.
- Collect and label patient specimens (blood, urine, sputum) for laboratory testing.
- Promote patient comfort and safety—assist with positioning, mobility, and pain management.
- Respond to emergencies and provide basic life support according to protocol.
- Follow strict infection-control practices, including hand hygiene and appropriate PPE use.
- Handle, store, and dispose of medications and supplies safely and in compliance with regulations.
- Advocate for patients’ rights and needs, and contribute to continuity of care through effective communication with the care team.
- Supervise CNAs or unlicensed assistive personnel when delegated, to ensure quality patient care.
- Participate in ongoing education to maintain competency and stay current with nursing standards.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.
