Overview
Seeking an experienced Physician Assistant for locum tenens coverage in cardiac/thoracic surgery at a Level II trauma center in Fort Wayne, IN. This inpatient role provides supplemental clinical coverage with ongoing dates beginning March 16, 2026.

Schedule & Coverage

• Shift: Mon–Thu 7:00–16:30; Fri 7:00–17:00. Preferred rotation: 7 days on, 7 days off.
• Call: Beeper-based; 1:3 call ratio. Nights: 16:30/17:00–07:00, 1–2 nights/week. Weekend block: Fri–Mon 07:00–06:30.
• Call response time: 20 minutes.
• Patient load: typically 8–10 patients with ~3 admissions per shift. Rounding required.

Clinical Duties

• Daily rounding across ICU and step-down units.
• Evaluate new consults and manage discharges.
• Provide clinical coverage and respond to beeper calls per hospital protocol.

Procedures & Case Mix

• Adult cardiac surgery: CABG, valve procedures, aortic dissections, and related cases.
• Thoracic surgery (excluding esophagectomy): lobectomies, wedge resections, decortications, mediastinal mass resections.
• Vascular procedures: CEA, AAA repair, lower-extremity revascularizations, and care for advanced heart-failure therapies (LVAD, ECMO, Impella). Some open vein-harvest experience expected.

Logistics & Systems

• EMR: Cerner.
• Temporary clinical privileges available.

Requirements

• Active Indiana license or participation in the IMLC.
• BLS and ACLS certifications.
• Prior cardiothoracic surgery experience required.
