Shift Schedule: 12-hour shifts (6:00a–6:00p and 6:00p–6:00a)

Patient Population and Volume

  • All ages; general Emergency Medicine case mix
  • Annual ED volume: ~32,000 visits (avg ~87 encounters/day)
  • Admissions and phone consults as clinically appropriate

Facility and Support

  • Hospital: 243 beds; Level III trauma center
  • EMR: Cerner
  • Fully equipped emergency department
  • Specialty backup: General Surgery, Orthopedics, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Cardiology, OBGYN, Gastroenterology, Pulmonology, Psychiatry
  • NP/PA coverage: staggered coverage (10:00a–6:00p, 2:00p–10:00p, 4:00p–2:00a)
  • Reason for coverage: supplemental

Clinical Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive emergency care to patients of all ages
  • Perform assessments, diagnostic evaluations, and required procedures
  • Manage trauma and high-acuity patients in a Level III trauma center
  • Airway management, resuscitation, laceration repair, and minor surgical procedures
  • Coordinate care and disposition with specialty services and hospital staff
  • Complete accurate, timely documentation in Cerner

Privileges and Credentialing

  • Hospital privileges required
  • Cross-credentialing required at affiliated facilities in Harlingen, Weslaco, and Brownsville

Licensure, Certification, and Experience

  • Active Texas medical license required
  • Board Certified in ABEM or ABOEM, or Board Eligible
  • ATLS and PALS required if Board Eligible
  • Active DEA certification required
  • Emergency Department clinical experience required
  • Must meet hospital credentialing standards

Compensation and Logistics

  • Travel, lodging, and malpractice insurance covered
