Locums Trauma Surgery Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner

We are seeking a Trauma Surgery Physician Assistant (PA) or Nurse Practitioner (NP) for locum coverage in Neptune City, New Jersey. This position provides critical coverage for pediatric and adult trauma patients with occasional operating room support. The role is designed to support a prolonged vacancy in a high-acuity, Level I Trauma Center environment.

 

Compensation: $120 Per Hour

 

Schedule & Shifts

• Shifts: 3 days per week, 12.5-hour shifts
• Shift Distribution: ~60% nights, 40% days (no 24-hour or reverse shifts)

 

Patient & Procedure Volume

• Patient Load: 10–25 patients per shift
• Procedures:
• Central line placement (including ultrasound-guided)
• Arterial line placement
• Chest tube insertion
• Simple and intermediate wound repair
• FAST exams preferred
• First Assist: Not required, but occasional surgical assistance may be needed (PA preferred for this reason)

 

Required Qualifications

• Active New Jersey Medical License
• Current CDS and DEA
• Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) certification
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
• Trauma, Critical Care, or ED/Critical Care experience preferred
• ICU experience preferred, but not mandatory
• Comfortable performing bedside procedures and managing trauma patients in a Level I ACS setting

 

Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct trauma patient care in collaboration with the trauma surgery team
• Perform bedside procedures such as line placements, chest tubes, wound repairs, and FAST exams
• Assist with occasional operative procedures as needed
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure continuity of care
• Document all patient encounters and procedures accurately in the EMR
