Hybrid MAT Psychiatrist — Outpatient Addiction Care in Chico, CA (Tele + On-Site, 24 hrs/wk)

We’re looking for a physician to join Adelphi’s outpatient substance use treatment team, providing hybrid Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) and addiction care for mostly adult patients in the Oroville/Chico area. This is a contract, long-term position starting July 1 that blends tele-psychiatry with scheduled on-site coverage.

What the schedule looks like

• 24 hours/week—ideally three 8-hour days (8:00 AM–5:00 PM with a 1-hour lunch)
• Tele-psychiatry coverage with one week of on-site visits every month/quarter
• No on-call responsibilities
• Documentation/admin time: 1 hour/day built into the schedule

Patient flow and visit types

• Initial evaluations: 60 minutes
• Follow-ups: 30 minutes (up to 14 follow-ups/day if schedule is full)
• Typical no-show rate: ~25%
• Patient population: predominantly adults; adolescent experience is a plus

Core responsibilities

• Provide MAT for substance use disorders and manage related medications (buprenorphine/Suboxone, methadone, naltrexone/Vivitrol)
• Conduct psychiatric evaluations, make diagnoses, and create individualized treatment plans
• Prescribe and manage emergency medications and perform crisis interventions when needed
• Collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team—NPs, counselors, therapists, case managers—to coordinate care and support services
• Supervise one Nurse Practitioner
• Evaluate patients for voluntary and involuntary commitment and complete required documentation
• Maintain accurate, compliant medical records (assessments, treatment plans, progress notes)
• Support continuity of care for patients in day treatment and substance use programs
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

• Active California medical license
• Board certified or board eligible in Addiction Medicine OR Board certified/eligible in Psychiatry, Internal Medicine, or Family Medicine with Addiction Medicine experience
• DEA license
• Valid U.S. driver’s license at time of application; must obtain a California driver’s license after hire per DMV regulations
